Kudos to OBD. No where the hell is the PC Gamer review? "At some point circa 2001, sim devs lost interest in sumptuous dynamic campaigns. “Too expensive to build” they chorused, “make do with this limp line of scripted scenarios instead.” Combat Flight Simulator 3, one of the last sims to ship with mobile frontlines and meaningful sorties, is the stout branch on which this singular, singleplayer pampering payware mega-mod roosts. You choose one of 370 historically based Western Front squadrons, flying plausible randomly-generated missions until the Armistice arrives or the Grim Reaper reaps. Thanks to interesting mixed-ability AI, a nerve-fraying mechanical failure system, and a battlespace teeming with incidental activity, those missions rarely go according to plan. There’s not even any guarantee your kills will count: uncorroborated ‘claims’ sometimes fail to convince the tally-validating desk wallahs. Rise of Flight has the livelier flight models, but WOFF brings the 1914-18 air war to life more successfully than any of its peers."

Well deserved, surely - and hopefully noticed and read by many gamers and simmers - you long desreved this, OBD!

Its a stupid list. I could mention at least ten wargames that were better than half of that list. DCS shouldnt be there for a start there is nothing special about their games. And is Steel Beasts better than M1 Tank Platoon? Not in my book it isn't. What about Red Baron 3d and B17, EF2000, Gunship 2000 and Apache Longbow? No its not a great list. If it said the ten best wargames 'that are still around' then that might make more sense, not that there is much choice these days.

Woo very nice thanks to Tim Stone. Thanks for posting Adger. The top list of anything always has "where is this xxx, and I think xxx is better" but at least it's not the top 1094994 war games of all time eh..

Yeah I agree... we're in the top 20 of a well-known and well-read PC Gaming magazine. Who cares about the other games in the list.. we're there.

Nats;
I'm in no position to argue with you about the "Stupid list" and really it doesn't matter. All that matters is that the list gave visibility to OBD's WOFF and that is free advertising in my book.

Well it was that article that got me to eventually buy WOFF, so from WOFF's point of view it is a very good article for exposure and sales.
I was surprised to see something like that in PC Gamer, its the first interesting thing they have had in the magazine for years, even though I completely disagree with it.

Well done OBD, or maybe I should say well done that magazine - I never read any of them. But it is great that WOFF gets a mention even if some disagree with their ratings.
As a point of interest, 'Morris' is coming back - he used to play OFF back then and I spoke to him on the fone yesterday. He has bought WOFF and the Extension but had not installed it as he had some trouble with his 27" screen. He now has one of those new fancy screens - VSYNC or something like that so will be joining in. He talks of 100fps so must have a mega card in there.
I found his tel no in an old PM on CombatAce - he was not aware that most of the WOFF stuff is over here.

The video card controls the refresh rate of the monitor, eliminating screen tearing and micro-stutters caused by frame rates being higher than the refresh rate. I would be interested to see what card he has too and what settings he uses for WOFF V2 once it's all set up. I'm always looking to improve.

I know and have played 90% of the games there, and I have always thought about these kind of top 20 lists as eye-catcher for the gaming community, opinion by the authors , they don´t intend to be the bible. But you know, they attract lots of readers, and that´s why they are written and published. In this Best 20 Wargames, what I find odd is that it actually mixes wargames (tactical, grand strategy, operational, turn based, RTS, casual or grognard) with flight sims. So, the results are not very coherent. I actually like most of the games listed (specially WOFF, by the way, it´s on his own league... ), but...Ace Patrol by Sid Meier?? Really? Great to have you inside the list OBD, you fully deserve it. Even if you are considered as a wargame company now

I just wish sometimes they would be a bit more imaginative in their lists of the best... instead of just picking the obvious games that are still played today. It would be good to see them do some stories (instead of the usual FPS, RTS babble) on less known about games like WOFF, EAW, and perhaps the rise in old games appearing on Steam like F19 Stealth Fighter or old recently remastered games like Lords of Midnight and Homeworld. There is so much good stuff around now being made by smaller companies, and its not getting any publicity because the media dwells on the same AAA candidates day in day out.
But I do still like this list (even though its stupid!), because it is a good way of seeing wargames you might not know about or have forgotten about. And any feature about wargames or flight sims is good these days, lets face it.
Interestingly talking about old wargames I noticed Steel Armor: Blaze of War on Steam a few days ago, which looks and feels a lot like the old M1 Tank Platoon, which is another old game I loved. Got to love some of the indie stuff being done today!

Well, definitely deserved, Mat - your scores are among the finest I ever heard in games or sims.
