Japanese warships were the most beautiful of WW2 IMHO.

yes all ships do.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

I have never heard of the Musashi and I am a WW 2 buff.

I have heard of the Yamato.

Then you haven't heard about the 3rd ship in the class, the Shinano, either.

The Musashi was the sister ship of the Yamato. Main armament consisted of 9 18" guns. The Shinano was converted into an aircraft carrier and it was sunk in 1944.

I think the Shinano was sunk just off the coast of Japan during her maiden cruise by USS Archerfish?

Wiki (I know...) says Shinano was not finished but moved for a safer final fit location when it got hit.

My (step) brother and i received a Yamato and Mushashi model kit about 1984ish for christmas one year, kits with little battery powered motors, like in the slot cars. No remote control, you just adjusted the rudder and turned her on and the props spun. One of my mates at schools Dad is in the navy and they have a pool on base where we intend to take them to for their seaworthy trials. So we build these ships over a week or so, mine ends up better detailed, flag and all that jazz. I have Hood, Bismark and some other ships behind me whilst it is my step brothers first one, plus i'm a finicky little bastid when doing models and he is a bit hamfisted.

We trot on down with these models, get to the pool and plop them in softly, they float. Of course all of the other kids roll over and want to gawk and watch and one of them comments that they look the same excepting..'that one there looks better though !' which is my Musashi. We jump in the water, turn them on and muck around a bit and then decide to go opposite sides of the pool and have them make a run at each other while we swim behind them.

So it all goes well until they get close then my step bro gives his a decent shove, rams mine in the side and over she goes..and it's on. Pool fight. Wet punches do hurt. One half sunken and partially broken Musashi is retrieved at the end of the water fisticuffs, and i walk home with my busted ship and a bruised cheek. I'm pretty sure my step brother has the dubious honor of being the only person to ever sink a Japanese battleship in the Navy pool at Darwin biggrin

Haha!! Great story Ajay. smile

As a kid I always wanted a remote controlled submarine but I always wondered how that worked. I mean, a submarine is always underwater right? So how can you see where you're going if it's underwater? biggrin
