Well, I reached my goal of 100 missions, a personal best by a long shot. He also died being a bit bold. Patrolling enemy lines he spotted a formation that had to be 7 recon machines with 3 escorts headed west over NML. getting closer they turned back so my flight of 5 followed. Sure enough it was 3 DIII's escorting DFW's. I maneuvered my flight for attack on the scouts and a round with 1 which dived away. Climbing back up with no one in sight I spotted a flight mate circling and made for him. Looking back there is a DIII behind me and I turn to attack. I am getting the best of him when he dives away. Being a little too greedy and already celebrating a victory I stay with him. A Triplane will not hold together in a dive with a DIII. I KNEW BETTER! But, as in the real war, mistakes get you killed. Thanks to all who have taught me to be a better pilot. I never thought I would take one from Sub Flight Lt. To Squadron Commander with 100 missions. No TAC, HUD, in flight map, or Labels. It was a real treat.

No TAC, HUD, in flight map, or Labels. It was a real treat. It is always great to see someone making a successful career with all the 'gamey' stuff turned off. Well done MFair, and kudos for doing it with style!

Do it agian with the wisdom you've learned Takes a long time to do that MudWasp. Rufus was my pilot when I could not fly in the DID campaign. Once I get over this, it's back to DID, where this journey started in the first place. Yes it does, create a pilot for non-DiD. Time will pass, fly smart

MFair, regarding that the British have to cross the lines quite often, their campaigns could be counted x 1.5 or even x 2. 100 hours are quite a big achievement in the lethal world of WOFF! Congratulations to that - and also to the newly won wisdom. He could still be around. And I keep saying it again and again: greed, eagerness are the number one killer in this business.
Do i ever learn from my own wisdom? Slowly, to be honest...
Rest in peace, Rufus Taylor. Boy, now you will never know how it feels to watch your own children play. And who knows what could have become of you? What a waste...

Robert, thanks Hoss, having seen that movie at least 50 times, I can quote any scene in it. To add to your reply, if I was to survive that last mission, "I thought I might go down to a town for a while."
Scout,as you are one of the pilots that "nudged" me in that direction, thank you. Said it once and say it again. Never could have imagined how much more immersive it is. The only drawback is when you do lose one, the low is pretty damned low! Guess you have to take the bad with the good.

Rest in peace, Rufus Taylor. Boy, now you will never know how it feels to watch your own children play. And who knows what could have become of you? What a waste... Thank you Duke and Adger. Olham, you are most correct, I can't say for sure if it was greed, maybe some, eagerness most defiantly. I KNOW when an enemy has had enough and wants out of the fight, you let him go, especially if you have to put you or your machine in danger. I know from experience that a Tripe cannot out dive an Albatross so I should have let it go. There is too much luck involved with surviving the skies in WOFF. THe mission prior to this one I had a system failure over the lines in the middle of a furball. Lucky I was at 9000' and lucky no one followed me out and lucky I had a big cloud bank to disappear in. With so many odds against one surviving, you cannot add to them and expect to survive. See you over the skies in DID soon.
