From Zak' in response to a question if there would be a 'mods on' mode for Bos, similar to what we had in RoF...

Quote:
''there won't be a mods-on mode in BOS. It didn't bring much content to ROF within the 6 years, so we find it unnecessary in BOS.''

Does this mean that there will not be any mods allowed for multi-player?... implications?

If that turns out to be the case then it's a very short sighted decision. When you look at the games we have played over the years they have in almost all case had their lifetimes extended by mod creators. RoF may not have been supported that widely because WWI is not as popular as WWII but I think it's decision is more about monetising IL-2 BoS and Bo(M?) which could be damaged by allowing modders to create content.

Yup

I think it's safe the say that the IL2 series died today. (being a serie based on modding).

Well, back on DCS i guess

The storm clouds are brewing over on the BOS forum on this one.

I'm pretty dumbfounded at the continuing mess that keeps being announced.
It seems to be 'one step forward and two back'... frown
Anyway, I will still keep an open mind. Still waiting to see what comes to fruition when the FME is launched...

I'm stunned as to how they can compare ROF ,a WWI sim with a way smaller following, to a WWII by the name of Il2 ?

How many WWI sims have there been and how many mods has there been for those ?
Yet when we look at the Il2 series there has been a ton of mods !

SMH !

I'm still trying to keep a hopefully outlook for this years development.
At least I can finally play this game in my very limited times per week since the unlocks are gone.

Those guys must be in possession of a SSDB = Sequential Self Destruct Button.

Every time the fallout from one decision seems to cool off they come up with yet another amazing way to irk the masses.

They are finally cutting into the most faithful base with the no mods deal but it seems they will allow some mods, if you meet their standards.

So suddenly RoF is the reference and not the IL2 series?
Whatever fits your need at each occation I guess.

WOULD YOU BE SO KIND AND REMOVE IL2 FROM YOUR PRODUCT?

Next announcement:

Due to it being a PITA to work with them, AMD drivers will no longer be supported and BoS will be nvidia-only.

A Forrest Gump quote comes to mind with their self inflicted wounds (announcements and decisions)

stupid is...stupid does

The fact that out of nowhere a 3rd party comes out with the SMB, something that they have been apparently struggling with for months with their FMB, and that they immediately are thrilled to be saved; from themselves, by said third party (one of the few examples on their forum of everyone together singing praises (customers and Devs alike))

Says a helluva lot about these guys....its comical....because this is a commercial for profit venture...when it really seems more like a rag tag group of disparate guys trying to do something together with a piece of software they don't own and only partially understand.

The reason that Mods mode never took off in RoF was because it was overly restrictive and made multiplayer all but unusable.

So this seems more like a case of designing something to be so horrible no one uses it and then proclaiming loudly that because no one used it then it obviously does not need to be in the sequel. :/

Really can't make this stuff up.
I am amazed on a weekly basis now of some of the stuff I see coming out of them.

Exactly. The whole point of mods on/off switch in ROF was to restrict the use of mods, not to encourage them.
I think games from 90-s had better support for mods than ROF does.

I would be careful updating RoF anymore, as 1CGS may disable the "Mods On" feature at some point in the future. And you can bet your bottom dollar they won't announce it in advance. Right now I use somewhere on the order of 30 community created mods in RoF that GREATLY enhance game play for me.

I'm looking at RoF as a static installation at this point, never to be updated again. Quite frankly, I don't trust RoF updates anymore based on the new 1CGS "flight game rather than flight sim" philosophy.

In other words, keep your hands off "MY" RoF installation, 1CGS! attack

Yes, and it's a shame, as in the future they might release an aircraft I want. But now, it's just too much of a risk to potentially ruin a game I spent hundreds of dollars on.

He's gone from looking like the clear leader after 777 acquired NeoQB to now being sidelined and overruled on major decisions. I'd almost feel sorry for him if he not behaved like such an arrogant pompous ass when I went to him for help.
