I have a pretty fast system now. Are the benefits (speed) worth goofing around with one?
Had some time to kill today and went to a local electronics store and they seem to have come down in price considerably - like most tech after a year on the market I suppose.

Yes, I have mine on a dedicated WOFF SSD.

WOFF definately loads faster, but the game does not play any faster, it just loads faster. The game loads so fast that the mission has already started and you are at the airfield before the "Contact" startup sequence has finished.

Guess we will pass for now then. My load times are already fast enough and I often have to hit "Pause" at the flight line because I am still getting myself adjusted.

I have WOFF and my OS on one. Works fine for me.

Mine on SSD too, and and my conclusions are the same as Panama´s.

I observed one other benefit, smoother play, micro stutters far fewer.

I agree with what was said above.

The only addition I have is you'll most likely only notice a difference if you don't have enough vram (1gb or less) due to the pagefile reads/writes faster on an SSD. Otherwise, a better investment would be a 4gb video card with a bigger monitor.

Already got a 27" monitor but a 4 GB card is on the horizon for WOFF if I am ever steady at less than 50 FPS.
And mercifully stutters ain't an issue.

I will add that if you are video recording your game play by using an app like FRAPS, you will find the SSD helps considerably if you are writing your output to it.

2.5" SSD's are a fantastic fitment to a Laptop as W7 loads in 15sec as opposed to 1m20sec on an I3, and even in my old laptop with some sort of Pentium it loads much quicker. The other advantage is greater battery life as it doesn't have to power the motor for the hard drive. AND you can then take the hard drive out of the laptop (as you have to anyway) and fit it into an external USB enclosure and use that as a backup or whatever. Altogether a win/win situation.
On my desktop (my WOFF machine with 8Gb memory and a 4Ghz x 4 processor) I keep the hard drives as the extra expense does not justify an SSD.

I have my OS and programs (including WOFF) on an SSD. Went to great pains to move as much of the user profiles to my spinner as I could.

I don't know what difference it makes, as the machine I'd moved from was so incredibly slow, but this one simply smokes. What I wish is that Windows natively allowed you to put your user profiles on the drive of your choice.

You can after a fashion by using libraries.

You can change the location of the folders my pictures, my music, etc. Follow the below steps and check-
a. Go to the location C:\Users\ (user name).
b. Now right click the folder whose location you want to change like my pictures, my music, etc.
c. Now click on the location tab and change the location under the heading “you can change where files in this folder are stored to another place on this hard drive, another driver or another computer on the network”.
d. Now click Apply and Ok.

Actually libraries (like pictures library) are where you go to manage your documents, music, pictures, and other files. You can browse your files the same way you would in a folder or you can view your files arranged by properties like date, type, and author.

In some ways, a library is similar to a folder. For example, when you open a library, you'll see one or more files. However, unlike a folder, a library gathers files that are stored in several locations. This is a subtle, but important, difference.Libraries don't actually store your items. They monitor folders that contain your items, and let you access and arrange the items in different ways. For instance, if you have document files in folders on your hard disk and on an external drive, you can access all of your document files at once using the Document library.

FWIW, I have OS, WOFF and other favorite programs on my SSD, and automatically save documents, downloads, etc. to E:/

Personally one of the benefits of a SSD is the reliability it offers. No moving parts (bearings etc.) to wear out. We encourage all our customers change to SSD's, especially our commercial customers.

Hi everyone, I'm new to Woff, only purchased it a week ago, I bought Woff 1&2, The Fokker expansion and the skin pack and I have been really enjoying it, but I have been having massive problems using WOFF on a SSD.

I have had to reinstall it for the third time in a week yesterday as the first install I made on a 250GB Samsung Evo 840 ssd worked fine for a bit and then ended up with a corrupt simulation.xml file making the game unable to load a flight.

I then reinstalled it all over again and it worked ok for a few goes and then I end up with a WOFF.dll error, again, making the game unplayable which is incredibly annoying.

As stupid as it sounds, my PC is so fast, that with the game running off SSD I don't think the old CFS3 game engine can keep up with it properly.

I have now installed it for the third time onto a 1TB Samsung F3 mechanical drive, so I will see how I get on.

My DirectX and Runtimes are all up to date, and I have no problem playing any other game, just Woff doesn't appear to like my pc for some reason.

If anyone has any ideas as to why, I would be most apreciative.

I was aware that some people have a bug with the EVO SSD's but I have benchmarked my Samsung Evo SSD and there is nothing wrong with it :



I also have a Crucial MX100 256GB SSD and an OCZ Agility 3 240GB SSD in my PC.

Does anyone know if I can have two installs of WOFF at once? I'm guessing not.

I would like to try it on an SSD, just to reduce load times, but don't really want to have to uninstall the version that appears to be running ok off my 1TB Samsung mechanical drive. I find no comparable performance difference between SSD or standard mechanical hard drive apart from load times.

I have a Samsung 840 Pro SSD, not sure it's similar to the EVO but never had a problem with any corruption. I'd check in other areas too - could be other apps you are running, check your overclock isn't a little too much if overclocked CPU.

I did what they recommended and left a section of the drive unformatted - called "Over Provisioning"
I think that is good advice with many SSD drives as once it believes it is "full" for the first time, irt switches to a new mode where it will try to erase a cell before a write to the cell.

The software with Samsung (Magician) tells you to do this.

I had lots of trouble with file corruption with WOFF on a Kingmax 60Gb drive. After reinstalling a few times I put the drive in my laptop. WOFF on a WD 320Gb 3.5" drive has given no trouble at all. And the SSD in the laptop has also given no problems. Make of that what you will!

Yes you can have two installs of WOFF, but remember you only have one registry and that is on your C: drive. If the two installs of WOFF are not patched to the same level it can cause problems.
