It was -26F this morning. It is +1F now, time to do a few outdoor tasks while it is warm.

Cold in Berlin, but not real frosty. Often we have high inversion fog these days,
which makes a depressing lightgrey cover.
But yesterday was sunny and blue skies - loved it!!!

Well if we are keeping score it was -14 here. That's fahrenheit my dear Olham.
Mercifully the wind has died down to almost nothing.

Last week while in North Dakota I went from -23F (-30 Celsius) on the east side of the state to +42F (+6 Celsius) on the west side, and all in the span of about 18 hours. Hard for a body to keep up with that kind of a swing.

Hehe. Nice riposte.
I just don't want to start a second American revolution like the last time they tried to make the country go metric.

2 deg. in New Bedford, Mass & arse-deep in snow.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But in practice, there is.

Today Berlin is sunny, blue skies, but cold. Still, might be okay for jogging a bit.

I'll make a fast dash to the wife's car, brush off the snow and start it for her.
-5F and an inch or so of snow.

Huskabee, hope you see a gradual meting soon! Snow that high is a PITA.

Some of you are lucky, I was of the generation that had imperial money and measurements and then it swapped to metric as I grew up. So I still have to convert it in my head when buying petrol. Can't quite get my head around 2.72 pints of milk. At least we can still buy a pint of beer - they got some things right smile

I was in Jr High when the USA pushed to go metric. I found it easier for doing math, but the conversions I didn't care for. Fast forward a couple decades and the metric push didn't stick.

Worked in a machine shop that used metric and found it way easier than the others that used inches and fracrions of an inch. But for temperature, I'm still a farenheit guy.

I guess they feared big riots, and so they left it that way, Pol.
And British pubs should always remain the good old way.
But your driving on the left side of the road is quite dangerous -
I tried it here once and ended up in hospital, all plastered in... wounded

Little bit higher temps but 74 deg.F here yesterday at 3pm and 28 deg.F this morning. As for the metric thing. Back when some state Highway departments went mentric, some didn't. Try working bids up in 7 different states with 2 different means of measure. Nightmare.

Here in New Brunswick, we started with about 1.5 m of snow on the ground, and got an extra 0.8 m in a blizzard on Sunday and Monday.

Olham, I'm ready to move to "old" Brunswick!

Well we must be about the same age Mudwasp.
The school, and society as I recall, played the metric game for about two weeks, and then in a rare example of mass civil "disobedience", everyone just ignored the government directive and it was just quietly forgotten.

Since the whole world (besides USA and Myanmar and Liberia?) is using the metric system,it would do also good for the US for sure to have it sooner or later. Makes many many things easier if there is only one system. Of course there are some things which should stay the same, no meter (lol) if metric system is official or not. I would always like to see pitchers throw 90 mph and not 145 km/h, 480 ft homeruns, not 146 meter homeruns, or 4th'n inches and not 4th'n cm. 35 Yard rush, not 32 meters rush etc. There are some cultural things which should always stay as they are. But ohterwise sooner or later the metric system should IMO also be official in the US.

Ok, nobody took me up on my little joke yet...

But yeah you open up the metric/imperial thing and , well, on a woodworking forum that I was on once, that thread went to 40+ pages, by far the longest (and most strident) thread on the forum. I think many of us are in that age range.

When I first started college here in the US (1973) there was a push, and then I took two years 1985-1987 to finish off an engineering degree. I recall much of the work being in metric. Then I got into this job, and it's been a mix, but mainly imperial. For instance, our quite brilliant founder (6 patents, 60 years industry experience, master's degree from a very difficult school), prefers to use heat conduction units of watts/(inch-°C)!

And of course I have two sets of tools in the garage. But I think in english - inches, pounds, gallons, miles...
