Ahhh the venerable P Bass. I have a 78 natural J bass with a maple neck. I don't really play it much .. I prefer the 5s. Nice bass!
Thanks. Always wanted to try a J bass. The 5s is definitely a beaut, but it must take some serious travel to get your right hand from the bottom string to the top!
The same as the 4 basically... The transition os not that hard.. For me the 5 is bass... The only 4s I own are my 78 Jazz and my acoustic Breedlove..
Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.
@ Otto3 Ah fellow Gibson player? I found the LP to be well..heavy(boat anchor) The SG is just right for me. And since I'm a big AC/DC fan ..well it works!

My bass player (pictured above flicking us off) used 4 strings and fretless for years he moved on to the 5's and swears by them. I don't know, if I'm playing a 5 string it means I broke one!
To me a 5 is the perfect bass.. I tried a 6.. It was OK.. but just not for me... The 5s because they have that low B giving you all the low end from Eb to B gives you just the right amount of low end expansion for the bass and what it's job is..
Good to see all these musicians in here...

I'll join in with the musical posts...crazy that so many of us are into music as well. My two primary hobbies, music and gaming, both of which vex my wife to no end, lol. Here is my band performing last August. I'm the singer.
My apologies for the video quality...not sure what happened with that.
"I have only two men out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." 1stLt. Clifton B. Cates, USMC in Belleau Wood, 19 July 1918

Thats the truth! If mine comes home and I'm at the computer with a trackIR hat, earphones on she rolls her eyes. If its so loud she can't herself think, she rolls her eyes! I guess if you're musically inclined you may as well go buy a joystick and a trackIR I don't know if you can tell from my 2002 picture, there is a mic in front of me, I'm the singer too. Parts of that song are not easy to do! I think you did a great job with it.
Great thread BTW! Jagd, next time I'm up your way I'll try to get up with you. I just didn't have the time to spare last time I was up there.
Just give me a shout...I invited BearCat over as well, since he lives close and shares our love of CFS...
On a side note.....I need to do a study as to the correlation between CFS and playing the guitar.....got to be something there....
Hear that BC? Beers at JagdNeuns! There has to be something to it Look how many play and game. I have yet to see a discussion about the FM and DM of a single cutaway VS a double cutaway, Double is better.. everyone knows that.
VMI and Grunge? What would the Corp of Cadets think...? What would Stonewall Jackson say?
Haha, I tend to think ol' TJ wouldn't like it much, but to each his own . Its probably not what he had in mind when he said "You may be whatever you resolve to be."
Thanks for the compliment, Logan. That means a lot coming from a fellow musician, and a singer to boot!

Guitar player here also...hair band from the late 70's through mid 80's
This is a diddy we wrote and recorded at our 20 year reunion a few years ago: Bucksnort's Old Band - New Song We were able to set our walkers and wheelchairs aside long enough to play a few notes
This is me and a friend on a trip to Australia in 2008 (I'm on the left):
Dogfighting is what you do "after" you drop your bombs and blow something up! Can you say "JABO!"
I like it Bucksnort! It brings back the sound of the 80's for me. I am more a Megadeth, Metallica, AC/DC type See
But I can dig some hair metal too! My band is coming up to our 27th reunion(couldn't make the 25th work) So hope I will have a song or youtube to post for ya'll soon.
