Hi people,

Just lately there has been quite a bit of activity over my now famous Flyboy's Longbow 2 Windows Vista/7 Fix. There's been several mentions of it on here and a few e-mail queries.

This has got me thinking about everything again. I won't say I'm back into LB2 but I am certainly closer to it than I have been for a while.

So, as some of you may be aware, there has been some small tweaks and fixes arise in recent times such as the color fix only a week or so ago.

If I were to update my Vista/7 Fix, what would you like to see included or updated?

Some of you have probably kept tabs on latest developments here better than I have, so any input you guys can give will be greatly appreciated!

Regards,
Flyboy

After chewing on it for a couple days, its my opinion you keep the install package as is. There is just to many variables in what works on one system may not work on another system and it just takes time to figure out what will work on each individual system. The one constant however is your initial install. That seems to work on EVERYONES system, then you can tweak from there. I remember spending 4-5 hours prior to you providing the base install just getting to THAT point. Then I quit playing for awhile and saw your Longbow 2 Windows Vista/7 Fix and it was instant, I was at least at the base screen in 3 minutes vs 5 hours. What a godsent. So much easier to have a "clean install" to start with in case experimenting goes wrong and you have to delete and reinstall. At least now that would only take a few minutes vs a few hours.

So my vote is it stays as is.

Edit: It may be a moot point with Windows 10 on the horizon. If Windows 10 isn't backward compatible even I will give up.

Thanks a lot for taking the time Flyboy, you always have been one of the great contributors to the LB community.

I would maybe add them as an "Extra"? If that is not too much trouble. Anyway, whatever your decision is, Thanks!!!

Thanks for the input, guys. I wasn't planning on any major additions or updates just perhaps a few cosmetic tweaks here and there and inclusion of some new fixes.

Here's what I thought about doing, so far:
* Update fix name to include XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/+
* Change the .zip root folder as some people have had issues with the .zip installing to a different folder to their game (i.e. because they have it installed under 'Janes' folder and the fix install to a 'Jane's' folder (apostrophe present).
* Include a folder or companion .zip file with Phoenix's fixes and the color fix discovered by member 'john84' here.
* Updated documentation to include a brief version history, new edits and tweaked install procedure and/or notation on usage of extended compatibility settings.

sounds good! Especially the "companion" folder. That was what I was aiming for in my previous comment.

Maybe put something about adding the longbow 2 folder to the users exceptions list on antivirus. I know it is a pain and keeps saying DGvoodoo is an unknown threat. When an antivirus blocks it it won't work.

Yeah I've added in the 'readme' file about the LB2.EXE file creating problems... never heard that about dgVoodoo before though.

The new 'readme' file is much more extensive than before. In data size, it's currently 10 times larger, in fact.
