Hey, Robert, I follow and occasionally comment on the DiD thread and love reading the reports, but I can't realistically squeeze in enough time to fly missions without some form of time compression. The kids have activities almost every night so I am lucky to fit in "the good parts" of flying and fighting when I can... I don't want to jinx you by saying what an impressive run Albert has had so far
MFair, yeah, that guy was a little over anxious, eh? , Fortunately, he had his (H)eavy (A)rmor on and was back in the fray the next day!
Thanks for the cudos on Albert, but he got a little sloppy in his last mission and over zealous! He pushed his turns a little too hard a couple of times and fell out into a spin. That was a wake-up call! Must pay a little more attention to limitations or he won't continue to survive!

Pulled a dawn patrol guarding some recce craft today:
That was like 40 minutes into the flight. If someone had attacked while we were taking off, I never would have seen them! Oh, yeah, and since when is it still dark at 7:20 AM in the morning?!?! Didn't Europe ever hear of Daylight Savings Time?!?!!?
Phew... anyway, we dispatched a couple of Halberstadts attacking our recon-ees when on the way back, we encountered a couple of Roland C IIs and hilarity ensued...
That's right, that observer was still shooting me WHILE HE WAS ON G-D FIRE!!! How can we win against such determination?
*Please excuse the occasional head tracking wonkyness...
The older I get, the more I realize I don't need to be Han, Luke or Leia. I'm just happy to be rebel scum...

You handle the Noop like a real pro Rick. Nice turns. Very steady, no wobbles. Line up your target easy enough and hold him there in your sights. Excellent flying sir.

'Reminds me of a poster I saw years ago (and still wish I'd bought) It's drawn from the POV of an owl dropping in to take a mouse. All you see of the owl is his talons on both margins, and in the center, down in the snow, is a mouse in a tattered winter jacket, an arm in a sling, on crutches with a bandaged foot, a bandaged head and an eye patch, looking up, and flipping the finger to the owl. The caption read: "The Last Defiant Gesture". Rather like your gunner; he's going down, but damned if he'll go quietly.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But in practice, there is.

On request of some forum friends here, I made a short video of a scrap I had leading B-flight of Jasta 5, Boistrancourt. The video also shows the modded historical airfield (beta) made by RAF_Louvert, with the 3D modelling help of Hauksbee.
I recorded the video with FRAPS and converted it "as recommended for this project" - not sure if I could have gone higher in quality; what do others use?
EDIT: Very beautiful afterglow shot, Rick!

Olham, very nice my hero! I always enjoy watching well flown air combat. I smiled when you recognized the opportunity at the 4 min mark when the Tripe presented you with a belly-side entry. Superbly flown! That adversary must have been an HA.
With all the engine troubles I have, I cannot afford the luxury of cruising home at 100 meters and flying final between the trees.

Question on your technique Hellshade. Did you know how many EA your flight had engaged? I ask, because when you put the fight on your nose (looking right into the blinding sun), I couldn't quickly identify the bandit(s). I worry about mid-air collisions as the conga line forms behind my target.

Hellshade thanks for the entertainment. That DR1 sure has an amazing lift I enjoyed the dead stick flight, You also had some pretty slick opponents with some great manouvering for an AI in those SE5's
Great stuff!!
