well, to be fair, the mouse control is not much fun.. as not YOU are controling the plane, but an AI that flies you to the point your cursor is pointing at.. not like in the old FS days.
what is surprising, is the amount of control power it has, even over let´s say "expert configuration" planes:
That could actually be pretty useful if one plays as a backseater, like patting the pilot on the shoulder and yelling "go there!". Will have to try that out. If it works, this could make observer careers a viable option.
Is there a way to turn off autopilot when you are in the back seat? I could see mouse control being a useful addition there with an on/off toggle, but if it only works in the pilot position as described it is indeed useless to most.
unfortunatly not.. changing seats puts an autopilot on. Which is another issue, as there shouldn´t be any other then the straight-n-level autopilot in advanced settings in MP...
the mousecontrol thing messes quite a bit things up for "realism" servers, from the CCIP bomb aiming to aiming help, something many people are not happy about, me included, but maybe that gets fixed.
i don´t think the mouse control is overpowered (appart from the CCIP-bombing help it has gotten that is even on in realistic settings..THAT really does allow for some cheatsy stuff, imho) but it is also not much fun, in my book, as your control over the plane is really limited.. and the switching over to ai-autopilot when you go into the gunnerseat can produce weird results...
What I did not know, is that you are supposedly able to look around with right mouse button.. which should make it much more useable.
here is Dukley view of our experimental session:
but I still think the updated icons and overlays are far inferior to the ones before, drop&drag functionality has been edited out, the compass is an handheld infantry compass where the red needle end shows course instead of north (appart from the fact that those compasses where never used on airplanes...) and all those things. Aiming help is still forced always on and not offswitchable anymore... Overall the cluncyness of design and code is higher (look for instance in dukleys vid how the gui-elements load in 15:51 in the middle and then "jump" to the corner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=RABoEAlHUu0#t=951 )
and then there is the fact that I got a belittling response from a developer for a not at all unfriendly voiced bug report (with "humourous" advice to go to a doctor and get meds...) which I kind of not see as a professional response in customer service of a premium priced software product... all in all no big deal, but I´m definatly rethinking further 777s studio-product purchases and have a close eye on their design decisions before buying.
ok, so there where some missunderstandings and just for clarifications: the aiming help things are now (with the hotfix) indepent of the the steering mode (can be both mouse / joystick) and they follow a double switch logic...
the realism/serverside setting only enables the inflight option icon, if it is off, the icon has no function.. but the previous function of toggeling the magic aiming recticule for the reargun is patched out, that magic-gui is now always on and can not be turned off.. I made an explicatory picture of the double switch logic and a proposal how, in my eyes, it should be..
