Wow this is a pretty nice game! Never got to play this when it came out. I have only played the single player mission (2nd one down I think) so far where you have to take out some flaks for the B-25s. Then they drop bombs on the factory.

I have it patched up and running dgvoodoo wrapper with it so far but there are probably other ways to make the game more stunning?

Thanks ST-Dornil. I just learned EA used the real deal WW2 aces to test the game and provide feedback while it was being made.

I also didn't know they left Stukas out. Or were they just used in the Eastern Front?

I will have to try Jane's Attack Squadron as well. Although it didn't receive the praise as WW2 Fighters did.

Well never playing this game when it first came out, I patched it to the current version and I just finished the allied air campaign.

It takes place during the battle of the Bulge.

What I liked
-That they used real ww2 aces to build the game!
-No crashes or problems at all on windows 7
-playing with the dgvoodoo at highest res made the game look very nice
-I had more fun playing this than The current version of IL-2 sturmovik no joke. Everything seems more do-able and not so far far away and yet NOT like an arcade game.
-I feel like I am in 1944 when I click the ww2.exe
-Awesome mission builder.
-Plenty of in game options
-Beautiful art work, I still can't believe the art that went into this.
-Sometimes US tanks will help you out if enemy armor is your objective.
-Nice single player missions.
-2 campaigns Allied or Axis.
-Multi-player
-Instant Action
-There are a good number of ww2 tanks and vehicles! They did a good job modeling the american side and german side.
-The hanger told you tons of info about each planes guns and engines.
-nice videos from real ww2 fighter pilot aces.
-Neat campaign cut scenes, explosions were kind of too loud though.
-If you died or bail out in the campaign, your AI team will sometimes complete the mission and your player won't be dead or MIA.

What I didn't like
-Playing on keyboard was just fine, you had to change the keys outside of the program in the directory folder though if you wanted to use a key for something else.
-50 cal seemed very weak when shooting at light vehicles even the kubelwagon took 2 passes.
-Playing it on fair mode with no cheats full vulnerability and limited ammo there are just campaign missions you have to tick the cheats on to complete. 1 mission being taking out 27 vehicles with 3 or 4 p-38 all while trying to keep 5 enemy aircraft off of you at the same time.
-Some of the campaign missions just made me cringe, historically accurate or not some missions you were up against twice as many aircraft.
-AI had different skills some pilots where terrible and ran themselves into building when attacking ground targets. Others would get 3 or 4 enemy air kills during 1 mission.
-AI was terrible at landing at the end would crash and everything if too many were trying to land.
-You have to radio to AI in your command to fly at different altitudes to avoid the flak.

A lot of very good atmosphere in this sim. This is a classic.

I had thought hat Janes WWII Fighters was only for Win95/98. Is there anything special that I need to do to get Janes WWII Fighters to work with Windows 7? I have Janes WWII Fighters NIB and I have yet to try it out with Windows 7. Many thanks...

WWIIF is running perfectly with Win764. Sometimes there are some problems with modern videocards. In these cases setting 16bit in-game color often helps.

Thanks for that reply Dornil. It is most sincerely appreciated.

I am planning on loading Janes WWII Fighters on an old HP laptop that is running Win 7 Home Premium 64. It has a 2.10GHz Dual Core CPU and 4 GB of RAM. I am hoping that all goes well. Do you know what are these other guys are talking about when they say that they need to run applications like 'dgvooodoo wrapper' or 'nGlide' on Windows 7?

DgVoodoo, or rather it's successor DgVoodoo 2, is a free program that allows one to replicate playing with an old video card, such as a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra. It can also function as a glide wrapper. I use it to play European Air War and it works excellently.

I've now got EAW up and running with Windows 7 Home Premium 64. It seems to be working okay but the introduction videos and the menu pages are all scrambled and pixelated. Will installing and running 'DgVooodoo2' rectify this???

DgVoodoo rectifies it, but I'd turn off the introductory videos. I think you can do this in the eaw.ini.

Many thanks for your help and patience. I know that I must sound like a complete simpleton, but I have only just found out that Windows 7 will run 'pre-XP' games. I was initially trying to set-up a dual boot configuration with Windows 98 but nothing worked. I learned that Win 98 will not work on any machine that has any more than 1GB of RAM! Go figure...

Can you recommend a good/safe source where I can download DgVoodoo? I downloaded it once but my anti-virus punted it. It apparently contained hidden malware...

Okay. Please disregard last.

I found what seems to be a safe download here http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2.html

I've got 'dgvoodoo 2.71.3' downloaded and installed. Now I just need to figure out how to use it...

DgVoodoo is fairly simple. I worked it out through trial and error.

The DgVoodoo app comes with it's own instruction guide. Do I need to Cut/Paste certain files somewhere? Am I understanding this correctly???
