I guess we will never get a Ghostbusters 3 especially now with Ramis gone and Bill Murray off the deep end.
So Hollywood is going to reboot it with an all female cast including loud mouth obnoxious Melissa McCarthy and just to be politically correct and to attract a more racially diverse audience, have a Black actress.
2 of the actresses in the quartet are Saturday Night Live actresses which means they have very little big screen big budget film acting experience which is not a good sign.
You might as well hand out blindfolds for the firing squad right now before the movie is even made!

Do you mean Kristen Wiig? You're really wrong then. She sure has a lot more "big screen big budget film acting experience" right now than Murray and Aykroyd had when they made the Ghostbusters, and they came out of SNL too.
That's not to say that it will be good film though.

I just don't care- if it actually turned out good, then I might see it. If not, maybe they'll learn their lesson and not try it again. No harm done to me.
But here are my reasons why it might not be good:
Remember that the Peter Venkman character was a bit of a conniver and womanizer- used his position to try and score with women. That sort of thing probably will not work with a female cast. What sort of things will they do to get yuks? Go for stereotypical, 'clean' female humor (You go, girl, I ain't gonna do nothing with no ghost and risk breaking a nail)? Or will it be more like Sex in the City? It's not the idea of a female cast in a film, it's the idea of taking something that had neurotic, nerdy male characters and replacing them with a female cast who will no doubt have to depart from the formula. There really is something to the argument to come up with something from scratch that probably could be done better than shoehorning something.
However, being that Ghostbusters is a bit of an over the top comedy, they could actually produce something that is genuinely funny. If that is what the goal is, that isn't an impossible feat if you just leave the nostalgia at the door. The second Ghostbusters sucked anyway.
I just don't count on it being a hit, though, given the pattern that we see how the film industry works.

She did some voice work for animated films that I've seen like Despicable franchise and How To Train Your Dragon franchise but that doesn't count for me.
I can't tell one voice from another.
All her live action movie work, I haven't seen.
If a movie doesn't look good in a trailer or if it's not of my interest, I don't see it.
Apparently she hasn't made any live action films that were worth seeing to me or that piqued my interest.

And yet somewhere among all that failure she will be somehow traumatised you won't watch her film while she's rolling on bed of used Benjamins she earned just for opening her mouth and looking good on camera?

Not really anything to do with the new movie but, when the first Ghostbusters came out my ship was anchored off of Haifa, Isreal. So my division Chief and I decide to go see it after visiting a local watering hole. Watching it dubbed in Hebrew with English subtitles was hilarious. The audience laughed the loudest when the Rabbis were praying over the widened crack in the street before the Sta-Puffed marsh-mellow man came out. Just a funny memory, thanks.
Come on now, we all know that real aircraft have tailhooks.

I can almost see the bad jokes coming in- "Ooooh that marshmallow man would go straight to my thighs."
At the risk of sounding sexist, female comedy often is not funny, or not as funny as male comedy. The exception is when females actually sound like the males or participate in male humor as a foil. Female based comedies aren't very developed otherwise.
Generally, women don't have to be as funny, we men like them enough for other reasons without that, they don't need it the way men have developed humor to gain mating rights and advantages. But, male humor that is lost on women wouldn't serve a purpose, either, women have the ability to appreciate and like humor, but if they stay stuck in crappy 'what's wrong with men' or 'weight gain' jokes, it's not going to be as good.

Not all female comedians base their comedy on females. Not all black comedians base their comedy on being black. Not all Jewish comedians base their comedy on being Jewish.
Feel free to stereotype and generalize, though.

Did I say all? Pretty sure I didn't. I even said that there are female comics who copy the more 'male' forms of humor. Feel free to not understand my point, but I will say that as a rule, not the exception, female comedy is not as funny or more funny than males, at least for my taste.
I don't think females do comedy as well otherwise- not that they aren't capable of it, but most of them tend not to do it as well.

The fact that you think females do "female comedy" is all the proof that is required. If you saw Identity Thief, Melissa McCarthy did comedy, not "female comedy". Your idea is based on norms from the 1970s or before when to even get roles women had to do "female comedy" because males wouldn't or couldn't, and the male execs saw it as an untapped market. There are just as many funny female comedians as unfunny, just like males. Once again you show you do not view females as humans just like males, but rather something totally separate. Your misogyny is tiring. I'm surprised you don't call them "broads" or "dames."

The fact that you think I could be referring to broads and dames indicates further you don't understand what I'm talking about. Funny this, because my original point about the male cast of Ghostbusters is that I call Venkman conniving and womanizing and the male cast as neurotic and nerdy- which you have failed to pick up on, instead wanting to believe my whole basis is misogynistic. You have really failed to understand my point, now you're adding more to it. How much more could you not understand and take it even further?
So you don't think there is such a thing as 'female comedy" even today? Not at all? In order for me to proceed here, I just want to see you admit this first:
Yes or no, "There is no such thing as female comedy."

Ghostbusters the Reboot.
or
Chicks with Sticks.
The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events.
if done right, it could be fun..... but it will not be done right.
I am willing to bet that it is going to be young&sexy and hip instead of the original "defective heroes" aproach... thats what they´ll never learn. Superficial pc-stuff with at the same time conflicting scantily clad female curves thats how its gonna be.. I mean if it was a fat whoopy goldberg as a failed scientist now sweeping floors before getting the drift to mop up the ghosts, that might even work if you´d invest in some original storywriting... but I don´t see that happening.
I mean, can you imagine THIS in an all female cast without beeing overly #%&*$#? m(

Weig was great in Bridesmaids, as was most of the supporting cast. Besides Meangirls, Bridesmaids were the only "girl centric" comedies I found laugh out loud funny.
