Good AAR. The riposte is blocked in the US by SME*, maybe due to sound track?

*Sony ... figures

I got all SF2 games now and downloaded some of the campaign expansion mods. It is tempting to try them all, but then there would be no time to do some actual flying. This Korea mod truly is the closest thing to appear since Mig Alley was originally released. While it doesn't have the strategic layer that Mig Alley had, and the radio voices aren't as varied, it does offer carrier ops and a wider variety of aircraft. I'm particularly pleased with the looks of the terrain - it has a certain "hand painted" feel that works really well.

Another thing that was in Mig Alley (though usually bugged, in true Rowan style) were FAC aircraft that would mark targets. I know the FAC function was removed in the SF2 series, but smoke markers should be possible, as they appear in the SF2 Vietnam expansion mod. Does anyone know if these could be added in the Korea mod?

Undercarriage lever a bit sticky was it, Sir?

Re FAC it didn't even work in SF1 I hear so there'd be no point... in SF2 you can easily load some Willy Pete rockets and shoot them on targets but apparently there'd be no tactical implications of it, it's not as if the AI will "detect" the white smoke and roll in. So might as well have the aircraft load up on regular ammo to take out AAA and tanks etc. If the game had multiplayer that'd be different..

The smoke markers would be meant for me biggrin

I am getting the hang of managing my wingmen in an A2G role so as to emulate the "Spaced Target Selection" attack pattern from Mig Alley, where each aircraft makes an individual run while the rest circle. A2A is a very different matter... Your AAR inspired me to start using the "Break" command pre-emptively - before I used it only if a wingman was in immediate danger, which was probably much too late. Using "Cover me" and "Attack my target" alternatively I am getting some success using my N°2, but it feels like the other elements have a mind of their own and either stray away or get clobbered even against inferior numbers.

Nice to see ya taken the plunge and having fun Johan:) Good point about the smoke for the player.. hmmmm. Never been much of a ground pounder in SF myself as finding AG work requiring more avionics support where SF is lacking. One can do that much better in Falcon4 or DCS for example but marking with smoke is useful indeed. As for a2a and AI management Korea is a bit different compared to the usual "missile mindset" as well due to it being guns only, one thinks more tactically compared to more "strategically" in say a Phantom which I think is more (v)sports like.
The break command, perhaps due to AI limitation when a bandit is on his tail and he breaks, usually it ends up being his faster demise or so I find and agree that pre-empt is the way to go. I sometimes bring no.2 into a bit of climb before issuing the command which results in wingman breaking downwards and it can create some nice problems for the bad guy to solve. The 2nd element yeah they operate as a unit themselves and is mostly left to their own devices when the sky is filled with migs. But when red air thins out a bit (providing one does well in a few missions) you'd keep an eye on them during engagements. When you have superior numbers (like 4 vs 3/2/1) micro managing them is great even.
