AMD is currently hosting private events for selected press members around the world to talk about an upcoming driver update.
The new driver will be released mid-December. There is an embargo, but at this moment we are unsure if the information and the driver will be released simultaneously.
Our sources claim that new Adrenalin will also support undervolting [among many other things], yes you heard that right, fully automatic undervolting. This was quite a topic at Vega launch
Apparently, the next major driver release is sometime during the next 4 or 5 weeks. I've tried the reported undervolting with RX480 and RX Vega -- higher clocks, lower temperature. The new driver feature is supposed to make it easier to do.

AMD Dominates Retail CPU Sales in November, Outsells Intel 2 to 1 at Germany’s Largest E-Tailer
The best selling CPU was the AMD Ryzen R5 2600, followed by the R7 2700X, the R5 2600X and finally the Intel Core i7 8700K secured fourth place.
When broken by revenue generated instead of units sold the situation improves marginally for Intel due to its significantly higher pricing structure. Although, AMD still commands the lion’s share of the revenue with a record breaking 3+ million Euros generated in November, the largest figure ever recorded by Mindfactory.de even when compared to Intel’s best performance last year in December.

AMD Pledges to Take On NVIDIA’s High-End Turing With 7nm Radeon GPUs in 2019
AMD CEO Lisa Su – Nov 27, 2018 – 22nd Annual Credit Suisse Technology, Media & Telecom Conference “We believe, we will be very competitive overall and that includes the high-end of the GPU market. Obviously there are new products out there from our competition. We will have our set of new products as well and we will be right there in the mix”
It’s not yer clear how exactly the company plans to compete with NVIDIA’s high-end Turing graphics cards. Especially after all the chatter we’ve been consistently hearing about AMD’s 7nm Navi being a mainstream focused product with GTX 1080 class performance.
[AMD's] Wang talked about the olden ATi & NVIDIA days where one would leapfrog the other every other year and how he plans to bring that competitive spirit back.
I think the author of the article overstates AMD's position. I think AMD will compete at the popular serious-gamer price ($200 to $300) sensible gaming high end ($400 to $600). I don't expect AMD to try selling $1000+ GPUs. Of course, that's an unsupported opinion. We'll see. Meantime:
16 cores and (possibly) 32 threads at 5.1GHz for $500?? The fact that as cores increase clock speed increases causes me to "take pause". Lets wait and see before getting too excited
AMD is allegedly readying three brand new graphics cards based on its upcoming 7nm Navi graphics architecture, and if this leak courtesy of AdoredTV is accurate they’re going to sell like hot cakes!
AMD Radeon RX 3080 – 7nm Navi 10 GPU, 8GB GDDR6 & RTX 2070 Class Performance at $249
With a TDP rating of 150W and a price tag of $249, the RX 3080 occupies the mid-range sweet-spot that we’ve seen gamers overwhelmingly gravitate toward every generation.
7nm strikes again. We'll see how true this rumor is in a few months or so. But, this rumor is in keeping with months old rumors that one could get Vega 64/GTX1080-performance for only $250 in 2019.

We knew Intel was working on 7nm.

Intel might have 7nm quicker than expected
Currently, the 10nm process is used to produce just a handful of CPUs, ahead of an expected ramp to high-volume manufacturing (HVM) only later in 2019.
But according to Anandtech, while Intel’s 10 nm is proving to be pants, its 7nm tech is on-track for introduction following its original schedule.
So far Intel has announced plans for only one 7 nm fab: the Fab 42 in Arizona.
Intel 7nm CPUs for gamers seem a couple years (or more) in the future.

The Fourth Largest Shareholder of NVIDIA Plans To Sell Its Stake Next Year
SoftBank looking to liquidate NVIDIA after losses mount
NVIDIA is currently down 48 percent from its October 1 peak and closed today $148.19, which puts it down slightly under 27 percent on the year, good for a market cap of $90 billion
Nvidia won't be going out of business -- $90 billion ain't bad.

Intel has unveiled its new long term strategy for CPUs and GPUs.
Interestingly, it seems Intel technical leaders are ex-AMD employees -- who now have more money to work with. I always said to myself, Intel could just "buy" AMD. What they did was buy some of the AMD technical leaders -- and more importantly the ideas that perhaps were being worked at AMD.
Having AMD type ideas built with Intel money and resources will definitely advance things faster for users like us. Hopefully, AMD and Nvidia will provide the competition to keep prices affordable.
Here's one of the many articles on multiple sites today. Basically, the new leaders have a new 5 year plan that they expect to start producing products for sale in 2020 (however, these won't be the very advanced ones coming in 5 years).

Normally, I don't mention driver updates -- but this is a major one. So far, I've merely "clean installed" it.

Using new driver, author tested Vega 56. Mixed results as expected. New drivers only add a few percent at best, normally.
But, undervolting worked. When I got my AMD cards, I found undervolting to be valuable for the last ounce of performance with low power draw. Yup, to get more FPS you "lower" the voltage -- not increase it.

AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Auto Overclocking Tested
they did a bang up job on the Auto Undervolt. This has been the key for quite some time to getting more performance out of the more recent Radeon GPU launches and it offers a very healthy bump to stock performance without touching the power draw. Bravo on that one AMD, I love it!

As noted above, I installed but had not "used" the new drivers. When checking out the "settings" interface, I found it did not work.
Uninstalled, cleaned using AMD uninstall everything software, used AMD problem fixing solutions -- including scans by advanced Windows command prompt application to fix "everything Windows". The drivers did install correctly (the first time -- noted above). But, the interface has not done so yet. I notice some other users had the same issue.
UPDATE: After "trying everything", I became afraid I overdid it. So, I've set my system back to what it was 2 days ago using a System Image. Now, I'll wait for a driver update. Things seem to happen with brand new releases of system software.
UPDATE 2: After "trying everything the second time", the issue is with my machine -- not the new AMD driver (it works on a similar machine in my house). The only solution left is a clean install of Windows 10 on my main system and reinstall of all my applications, etc. Can't blame AMD for "my problem" -- the problem merely showed up when I tried to install the new driver.
UPDATE 3: I made preparations for a W10 clean install (I had already tried 3 W10 installs leaving my apps and files alone). But, being obstinate, I tried one last time to install the new AMD graphics driver the completely normal way (which had never worked in many tries). Boom. It worked completely normally. Hmmm

Very quiet on solid rumors regarding AMD or the competition. So, for the heck of it, here's yet another W10 1809 warning for everyone.

Microsoft Opens Floodgates on Windows 10 October 2018 Update – Hitting “Check for Updates” Begins Installation Process (Not Recommended Yet)
[Per Microsoft:]
"Rollout Status as of December 17, 2018: Windows 10, version 1809, is now fully available for advanced users who manually select “Check for updates” via Windows Update.
On November 13, 2018, we re-released the Windows 10 October Update (version 1809), Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server, version 1809. We encourage you to wait until the feature update is offered to your device automatically."
Basically, they admit there are still issues. Only folks who are advanced users and really want the new W10 should download.
For me, W10 1809 seemed to work right away (?) The latest AMD 18.12.2 GPU driver was a super pain -- the driver loaded but several hours of trying things never got AMD Settings to show. Then, when I had given up, I tried one last time and the AMD Driver worked. So, now, it all works for me. Apparently, other folks have had an even harder time -- or were unwilling to waste a day trying

Regarding the competition's upcoming 14nm CPU for enthusiasts:

Intel’s Flagship HEDT Processor, The 28 Core Xeon W-3175X Listed Online – Could End Up Costing Around $4000 US
The Intel Xeon W-3175X is without a doubt the flagship chip that Intel will have for a while. It will be marketed as an ultra-enthusiast
boasting a base clock of 3.1 GHz and a boost clock of 4.3 GHz out of the box...unlocked design and allows up to 512 GB of memory support.
Even for enthusiasts, it won’t make a whole lot of sense unless you are into heavy content creation.
with AMD going for 32 cores and 64 threads ,.. Intel had to come up with a plan. This is Intel’s solution, but whether it works or not at the given price is something to be seen as AMD still offers more cores and threads,
For comparison the AMD 12nm 32core/65thread Threadripper (AMD 2nd Gen RYZEN Threadripper 2990WX 32-Core, 64-Thread, 4.2 GHz Max Boost ) is $1730 today at Newegg.

AMD EPYC Rome CPUs With A Total of 200,000 Cores To Power Atos BullSequana XH2000 Supercompouter
AMD EPYC Rome processors which will be the first to utilize the brand new 7nm process node are tapping in more deals from supercomputing companies even before its launch.
The new supercomputer would house a total of 3125 AMD EPYC Rome processors...This in total would give 200,000 cores and 400,000 threads
AMD has also tapped in a deal with the US Department of Energy for the development of their Perimutter supercomputer which will be housing AMD’s next-gen Zen 3 based Milan CPUs along with NVIDIA’s next-gen Tesla GPUs,
As noted previously, "cores and threads are where its at". Even over 30 years ago, it was cores and threads -- for serious work. I remember back in the 80s at work. We had a supercomputer in a very large room, cost $ millions, and had 64 cores/64 threads running at 0.07GHz (70MHz). Now, an enthusiast can do 1000s of times better at home with a $0.005M ($5000) AMD machine (w/Nvidia GPU -- for another year or so ).

AMD Will Be Launching The Ryzen 3000 Series CPUs, APUs And A Radeon GPU At CES
Update: AMD to launch a Radeon (consumer) GPU, Ryzen 3000 series and discuss 7nm progress at CES 2019 Keynote
the Ryzen 3000 series is fairly straightforward...AMD will be launching both the CPU and APU SKUs at CES 2019 at their Keynote. The APUs will have vega graphics and will be competing against Intel/NVIDIA combos in the mobility segment.
Perhaps the more interesting news is the confirmation that AMD will be launching a Radeon, consumer graphics cards. ,, I believe [not guaranteed] this is going to be the Radeon Vega II – the 7nm consumer variant of the Vega 20 GPU.

News has been slow. Almost nothing solid from AMD for a while. Only Nvidia unfounded rumors. Now, some Nvidia facts (hopefully).

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 pictured, launches January 7th
The 2060 SKU will be announced during CES, quite possibly by Jensen himself during his keynote. The new model will be available in stores starting from January 15th.
As noted in the comments section of the article, the rumored 2019 AMD 7nm "Vega" for a rumored/speculated $250 might beat this 12nm Nvidia card soundly -- maybe worth waiting to see performance/price on both, they speculate.
