Basically, once the faster RAM Profiles are integrated into the BIOS', the Infinity Fabric Link between CCX's will be a non-issue, and Gaming Performance will also be a non issue.

If true, then I can no longer say "Memory speed does not matter for gaming on Ryzen". And, I apologize for saying so in the recent past.

However, I'm happy I overspent for a high grade 3200MHz memory -- that just might overclock to 3600. I always assume I could be wrong and, thus, "safeside" decisions -- maybe this was another "wrong" that will turn out right because of "safesiding" smile

Rumors of the 12c/24t Ryzen appear to be coming true, as several E-Samples have infiltrated scoreboards sporting 12c/24t

Ashes of the Singularity Gets Optimized for AMD Ryzen, Achieves Double Digit Performance Gains Of Up To 28%

Ryzen 1800X improves to slightly better than Intel I7-7700K in some Ashes of the Singularity tests (I7-7700K seems to be the defacto "gold standard" of comparison for many gamers). Its understood that these performance test results (Ryzen and I7-7700K) are so similar that one will not "see" the difference (only measure it).

As I noted in my Ryzen Build thread, my personal Ryzen single threaded performance had "parity" with published I7-7700K results in a CPU-Z benchmark (within 1 percent). And was almost twice as fast in multi-threaded. Better than I expected prior to Ryzen release -- I would have been satisfied with 10 percent difference in single thread.

Hopefully (for AMD fans), this is "promise of things to come" with "modern" games that utilize modern features (like threads).

The 7700k is the most expensive CPU most feel comfortable buying, in the $300-$400 range (seeing as you need to buy a cooler for it, that makes total cost close to $400 unless you have one to reuse).
The Intel CPUs that are faster see price rise exponentially while gaming performance doesn't even rise geometrically. Paying 100% more for 15% more performance in a game is not reasonable.

When it comes to games, the x700k CPUs are the heavy hitters in the Intel lineup. Fastest stock performance, still OC's a nice bit, and leaves money for a great GPU to pair with it.

My problem with the synth benchmarks is that they test what a CPU could do, but very few programs (and almost no games) actually will make use of what is tested. So CPU A can be 20% faster or slower than CPU B in this or that benchmark, but then you find their gaming performance is less than 10% off, and in the opposite direction.

While I know people use their home PCs for things other than gaming, I don't understand it. smile

April 1 is "April Fools Day" at least in the USA.

I've noted two rumors/leaks dated April 1 that seem like "April Fools Jokes" (nowadays called "Fake News").

One is AMD and one is Nvidia. Both seem too good to be true -- yet, I did not notice the obligatory "April Fools" tags (maybe I missed them). Have to see if they are still being rumored on April 2 and beyond.

You can anticipate them here though.

Something for Nvidia fans. It's April 2 and the article is still there.

Quote
EXCLUSIVE: Upcoming NVIDIA GTX 1080 “11Gbps” Cards Unlock to Full GTX 1080 Ti With BIOS Flash

..our sources at NVIDIA [say] that Founders Edition GTX 1080 11Gbps graphics cards bought directly from NVIDIA’s geforce.com website, are really full GTX 1080 Ti cards in disguise..

..by simply flashing them with the video BIOS of a Founders Edition GTX 1080 Ti, the full performance will be unlocked!..

Article -- note April 1 publication date

AMD did something similar with the first AMD RX480 4GB Reference edition Cards -- they were actually RX480 8GB and could be reflashed to make them so (faster clocks and double the memory).

I merely provided the link for interested Nvidia fans to check out for themselves -- its their decision. As I noted, AMD actually did something similar -- thus creating a precedent. And, if this turned out to be true, I wanted SimHQ Nvidia fans to have the choice smile

For "April Fools" articles that might fool folks into spending serious money, its incumbent (necessary as a duty or responsibility) on the writer to unambiguously note the "April Foolness" somewhere in the article (obviously, I'm old fashioned -- and the old rules no longer apply). Of course, the article commenters also felt it was an April Fool prank.

Meanwhile, I am still holding back on the AMD April 1 rumor -- probably forever smile

Our local Micro Center "brick and mortar" store has a good selection of AMD X370 gaming motherboards in stock today. ASUS, Gigabyte, ASRock highest end boards and a couple second highest. They've had loads of 350 gaming boards for a while now (some very inexpensive -- to my taste).

I assume this means the supply of Ryzen motherboards is beginning to become more generally available. Still seem to have initial February BIOSs installed. Newer BIOSs are in "beta form". Buyers must plan to update the BIOS.

Meantime, no significant new news regarding Ryzen CPUs. Ryzen release/results are progressing as previously reported/rumored. Ryzen seems to be "the real deal" -- mine works as advertised on standard settings (I still have to install better cooler to experiment with overclock).

AMD RX500 GPUs are close to release -- but they are only slightly improved RX400 series "rebadged" products.

Vega GPU rumors have added nothing significant lately. Now we await the actual release in late May/June. Likely there will be some pre-release test reports prior to that. Now that Navi GPUs are delayed until 2019, I'm considering Vega more seriously for my own purchase (I'll get at least 2 years out of it). Thing is, my current RX480 "does it all" at 1440p.

The RX 480 is a brilliant card and eats anything at 1080p! Then I had to go and try stupid VR and Oculus Rift, so now I need something bigger. wink Hope AMD's AIB partner's don't take to long to get their Vega cards out.

Something tells me that will probably have more to do with yields affecting their supply than their own efforts.

The problem with Ryzen mobos was they were dependent on Ryzen CPU sales. You don't want to ship a ton of product and have it sitting around taking space, so you try to gauge the demand...and the partners were taken by surprise when AMD got a lot out there. There was a combination of poor communication and bad fortunetelling that led to people having CPUs without mobos.

Video cards are different. You don't buy a GPU and stick it in a video card with a socket, RAM, and video ports on it. The AIBs will make as many cards as they get GPUs for, plain and simple. The more tweaked designs as always will come later once they've had a chance to go over the design and see what they can do. Early boards are for the OMG I GOTTA HAVE IT NOW buyers who don't mind having a card that is basically reference design + logo, those with more patience get differentiation and possibly better deals (OC'd, noise levels, etc).

If they get 10,000 Vega GPUs, they will ship 10,000 Vega cards, it's that straightforward.

The only caveat is if for some reason there is bad silicon and they have to scrap a large number, but I put the odds of that at single-digit percentage at best. It just doesn't happen, those errors are caught by the OEM before the AIBs get them. It will boil down to AMD's supply of good chips to them.

Vega competition:

Quote
NVIDIA launches TITAN Xp with 3840 CUDA cores

..The card is already available for sale on NVIDIA website for 1200 USD...

Article

Up to roughly 3X+ as fast as a $250 RX480, according to test reports I read.

Some speculate this may be a "limited production" model built to beat Vega in FPS -- Nvidia does whatever it has to do to be the highest FPS.

Too rich for me. I might consider $700 -- but greatly prefer under $500 at my high end. We'll see what Vega brings price wise.

Competition is good smile
