I feel your pain. Sadly, I can only fly Jane's F/A 18 on an old WinXP Machine. Well thanks for answering, sir, I guess I got to stick with the vrs rhino for now.r

Hi, Helo_Head,
A stupid question, but how long did you wait after launching setup.exe ? I remembered it took ages for the program to kick in when I installed Jane's F/A 18 under Seven and 8.1 I went in my kitchen to make coffee and read some newspaper for quite a while; eventually, when I came back the installer was active and from there things unfolded flawlessly.
Not sure if this helps, but that's how I succeeded in installing the sim.
Best of luck.

Hi, Helo_Head,
A stupid question, but how long did you wait after launching setup.exe ? I remembered it took ages for the program to kick in when I installed Jane's F/A 18 under Seven
Same with me Andromedius, however, 12 months ago I built a new machine for DCS upgrading to Windows 7 Pro 64 with an i7 and R290. After installing the OS I found I could not install Catalyst Control Centre or the ATI driver from disc as the OS had overuled and installed its own graphics driver which, no matter how many times I uninstalled in Device Manager upon restart it would always re-install, under this regime I was able to install Janes F/A - 18 and TSH 4 and to my amazement, it ran flawlessly until November 2014. I recall when installing Janes that it took easily, two to three hours, after clicking setup.exe I would see the splash screen and blue progress bar run to 99% whereupon it remained for a minute or so then disappear, I remained waiting for a bit, expecting the next window to open, it didn't appear to be happening so, I went about my business elsewhere. Much later when i returned, the familiar setup process was underway just waiting on me to click Next etc.....happy days November 2014 Testing a mod for a DCS developer he advised I needed an updated graphics driver - I cannot recall how I managed to install the updated driver and Catalyst Control Centre but I did! He also advised that I should check I had my R290 plugged into the yellow PCIe socket and not the brown or black ones - I had to move mine into the yellow socket (perhaps this is how I managed to update the driver?). Anyway, after doing the above my Janes F/A - 18 didn't work so, I uninstalled and tried re-installing many times, always having to wait before I was finally aware of the menu music playing, strange thing this time, is that I can't get TSH 4 to work however TSH 3 one click installer is the way to go. When installing I always use setup.exe as Administrator and open Windows Task Manager. In Windows Task Manager under processes look for an entry called _ins5576._mp I don't know what it is other than that it remains when setup.exe disappears from the list. I just tried running Janes' setup.exe with it already installed, from the time the 99% bar disappeared it took 1 hour to get any feedback which was a severe warning that Janes F/A18 was not suited to NT etc. I clicked OK and the _ins5576._mp terminated in task manager. I suspect the severe warning is a consequence of it already being installed? And I recall issues with UV.DLL being recognised as malware. Certainly happy here with my install, I hope something I've said above might be a hint or a help in getting anyone who's struggling to install this still brilliant simulator.

Perhaps you can try the instructions in the following link as I believe you cannot even run setup.exe? The routine in the following link was devised specifically for folks encountering your same problem. Let us know how you get on? http://www.team-super-hornet.net/index.php/forums/6/1950

Saved patch v1.01f to cd... After installing I put patch cd in and opened it. Important note: if you intend to use the One Click Updater, do NOT install the 1.01F patch.

The routine in the following link was devised specifically for folks encountering your same problem. Let us know how you get on? http://www.team-super-hornet.net/index.php/forums/6/1950 I understand the instructions but am getting stuck with this: "After you installed NSIS and the registry plugin you can build the installer by right click on JanesFA18Setup. nsi and click on "Compile NSIS Script"." I dont have a "setup.nsi", I see a "setup.ins" however and when I right on that and try to compile, the compiler returns an error. For me, its getting to the point where I seriously question if its even worth it now. But thanks.

Have you tried install in safe mode? Good idea, just tried it, no dice: just closes with "not compatible with NT" etc, have tried all compat modes in safe mode no go. Cheers.

Gents, copy your CD to an ISO, then use a virtual disk drive to try and install it. Good idea, but already tried that, sir. Cheers.

Ghost and Helo_Head, send me a PM with a contact e mail address and i'll send you a link, dropbox or torrent, to get F\A-18 installed on your system?
Let me know your preference, dropbox or torrent?
With immense help from Tomcat over at TSH, this should solve your problems.
Dave
If anyone else is having problems getting the Janes F\A-18 installer to run on Win 7 64bit then, drop me a PM.

This did the trick.
I only needed to run it as wxp sp3 in compat mode.
Little bit of configuration with the controller setup in the ts3manager.
Runs with my x65f and track ir.
Cheers!
...now, who to try this online with?

Flew a few missions now in Campaign.
Funny thing: hideous grafix, excellent gameplay.

the graphics are from 1999/2000... so not really hideous considering the time it was released in. Yeah, I know, I still remember how excited I was the day I bought it in 1999. Longbow and F15 as well. It was awesome in its day. Though I have flown Falcon online since 1998, though, I never got around to flying JF18 online. How well does it fly online?

Hey Helo_Head, just to answer you question, It flies great! there are some rules of thumb to follow on hosting that help with multi-player sessions. Right now there is a max limit of 8 pilots online at once in a mult-player session. Connections are stable if everyone is flying the same version. TSH v3.06 is the recommended version to use, both by VFA-41 and TSH. We are always looking to fly with other pilots.... come check us out http://vfa-41.net/We use Hyperlobby to connect for multi-player and ventrilo for voice comms.

Thread necromancy... I tried an old ISO I had, no dice, it wouldn't install.
So I just got a CD off eBay... still won't install. Win7 x64. Can anyone help? Difficult since TSH is mostly gone and VFA-41 is gone.

I did. I've come to the conclusion that a Windows update is responsible. I wiped the system clean this weekend and it installed just fine. I then tried installing Windows 10 and then installing all the old Janes sims before doing any system updates. That also worked. I'll probably leave it on Windows 10 for now. We'll see. Just because everything installed doesn't mean it'll run well.
