I prefer Steam now as I've tried some mods, and yes after reading the readme carefully, borked my installation, so I deleted the files, verified cache and have a working installation again. I prefer Steam since if I delete the stuff, I can reinstall it without having to pay for it (barring activation times, in which I'm just like everybody else, have to buy it again) and as long as I keep my account, can do so. Besides a couple years back I ran into the "updater bug" and never took the time (my mind was somewhere else) to figure it out. With Steam I can just install it and go fly more or less. Besides file handling is generally the same regarding some stuff (skins mainly) so I like it and furthermore it keeps my games and stuff more organized.

Standalone guy here. I was into mods but since the announcement of EDGE I keep off them so poor modder don't have to go crazy fixing their mods after every new patch. And me with them.
Counting on adding mods after the graphical engine stabilizes.

I was using the Steam version but I switched back to the stand alone because one of the modules that came out, F-86 I think, came out a few weeks later on steam then stand alone. While I like steam, I dont see any reason to use it for DCS. IMHO Steam is an unneeded middle man in the DCS world.

That I'll agree on fo sho. It's great for me but yeah... the delay is a bit harder. Given that I've dropped enough on DCS I'm stuck with it. I just don't feel like buying the same stuff over again.

Is it even possible to switch to the Steam version and use my version of BS and A10C?
Your BS1 Version will not work under Steam or DCS World - you need an update from BS1 --> BS2 - but this is out of stock (AFAIK, will never come back) Your A-10C Version should work in both Steam and Standalone (until it was buy before 2013 (AFAIK)
