"When the project is released you'll need to unlock these modifications by playing the sim. Now we make them available to you to test them..."

Early Access week 5

Pre-Early Access Dev Diary 27, bullet point 6 states:

"Some early access events will let you test and try unlocks, some will be all about earning them in a pre-determined way. Of course, we won't save all your progress..."

But was this revealled after many of us had already bought in?

I can't remember?

Dn 46 about a month after EA was announced as Open...

dn 27 a week or two after the pre- order program announced

no bullet points there about unlocks, etc

I suppose that depends on whether you bought in before the Early Access began or after. I bought the game a while before EA was implemented. Dev blog 27 was the first blog after the pre-alpha phase ended, and quite a while before EA began.

Its the timing once again, the unlock system was key to their product and how they could distribute it in different markets yet the news was held back while they marketed it as the next chapter in the IL-2 franchise - a franchise that never had such tight control over the way customers played the game or had any of these unlocks.

I doubt this experiment in control will work in the long run. It is the opposite of the sand box approach, and by its nature narrows the field of those who will enjoy the game. Its counterintuitive to broad appeal. Instead, it fosters narrow appeal.

Remember the Wendy's commercial with the Russian woman modeling the same dress for all occasions. Same idea. And the "Get Happy or Get Out" marketing message is downright Soviet. I'm concerned I'll be exiled to Siberia hahaha

These anthropological forensics on the DD are like picking through the chicken bones on some caribbean voodoo ceremony

They are entertaining...

But ultimately they have little to no relevance to the matter at hand

Product acceptance

of which...we have ample evidence on Metacritic, Steam, here, the official forums

of much unhappiness

But then there is Putinism....

Why does any of this matter? Are you trying to build a legal case to sue the developer for your unlocks? Are they under some sort of contractual obligation to provide them? RTFM
Players could unlock all the stuff in the game 10x over with all the time they've spent complaining about it.

it would be awesome to be able to unlock stuff
BUT , if the game falls over more often than a one legged man in a a$$ kicking contest that kinda makes it impossible

Lol, and I - like many others, want nothing to do with unlocks/powerups, period.
And judging by the activity, or I guess I should say lack of activity, on all the forums that have a BOS section, it does not bode well for them... no matter how some try to spin it.

The fact that the game includes unlocks couldn't have been a secret to the early access players. If I remember correctly your GUI in EA said "unlocks" with a padlock icon right there in the loadout menu. What surprised players who hadn't read the diaries was that these would only be achievable in single player. The fact that they were there in the first place was evident.

I guess I was just ignorant to what exactly unlocking meant. As an old timer.....I viewed it as achieving mission success and unlocking the next phase of missions advancing my career level with each mission objective that was achieved. I guess I never gave much thought to equating mission success with "unlocking" the appropriate load outs and aircraft markings comparable to what was available for that particular time in history....it's really a juvenile way to do things and not at all in keeping with the IL2 banner of previous releases, which was openly touted, but in hindsight in what I would view as a misleading sales pitch to garner additional funding. Granted this might not be the case.....but I personally feel like it was ....

Also, no unit cohesion for a single player historical....well let's call it a game now, but at that time it was always viewed as a combat flight simulation, is something I never envisioned being produced from 777 or 1C.....Then I was running on the IL2 and ROF banner of past achievement. That they would take a giant step backwards, was something I overlooked.

Hahaha. So I tried that fast unlock strategy I posted earlier since I'd never actually tried it.
I scored 288 points in 15 minutes! So considering it takes 2000 points to unlock everything for the LaGG
That means unlocking everything would take less than 2 hours of game play.
You have to ignore all the action on the way to and back from the target, just shoot up the 4 planes on the runway and 2x speed there and back.
Kinda boring but if you want all the goodies fast it's the way. It's faster and more fun than the autopilot method.

You can unlock everything sharpe and you've still got a "backward vision" game. To each his own though, I'm glad you are having a blast with it and I really mean that. I'm on vacation this past week and posting a lot, but when I get bak home today...I'm going to post less and fly more..But I see you have time for both. Good for you....

Ok so then if I understand you correctly, for someone who owns the Premium Edition ( 10 planes ), should he want to get all the level ups for all the planes , running it in a fast unlock strategy one is looking at around say 18-20 hours or so total, to unlock everything that the game comes with? And that is the fast unlock strategy, assuming each unlock mission runs without issue of course and is successful.

Then once that is done, then what for the SP guy? Just continue with randomly generated missions that have no real bearing on any outcomes?

IMO 20-40 hours is average campaign run time in most games. For flight sims that's nothing.
I prefer to actually draw it out more just because it's more entertaining. By the time I'm done there will probably be more content due to having a ME
I'm mostly an SP player too so I hope there's more like an actual career type campaign. Sure the unlocks are rather gamey so I don't think they'd belong in a realistic career anyways.

I'd love to play BoS.

I don't understand why the single player campaign is so un finished.
It could be like this...

What went wrong?

I agree. I am just as dissatisfied as the rest of you guys. So dissatisfied that I removed BoS from my machine. I only referenced the Dev blogs in order to answer Wolf_Rider's question.

I only check this forum hoping to see some announcement of positive change, but none has been forthcoming.

Rubbish.

They used the old il2 brand name and fans to fundraise to make a horrid grind fest to compete with war thunder.

Now they treat those same seed investors like dirt.

Appalling behaviour.
