Good for you. But remember just one smoke is all it takes. I gave them up for over twelve month and stupidly accepted one on a night out with friends under the influence Within a few weeks I was back on them as heavily as before I gave up.

I quit cold turkey many years ago. It was a very good decision.
Stay at it. It's worth getting rid of that nasty monkey.
Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

Been smoke free for 35 years, was tough to quit, but cold turkey was the only way. Was amazing how fast I started feeling better.
Best of luck to you, the fastest way I found to stay cold turkey was avoid anyone who still smoked, and that was tough back then when you could still smoke in bars and restaurants. Had to give them up to.

good move stormtrooper. I quit when they went over 25 Cents per pack, about 50 years ago. will smoke a pipe a few time in the winter and one or 2 cigars per year, but no chance I would go back to cigarettes

Good going, it does make a difference. I don't want to sidetrack you from your efforts, but vaping is a lot better than smoking if you have a hard time getting beyond the nic-fits and physical habit of smoking. The physical part is what's so hard to get beyond, the nic-fits aren't bad once you get beyond 4-5 days. For me to quit smoking, it meant no bars, no drinking with friends that smoke, avoid hanging out with people that smoke...you just about have to cut out the parts of your life where you're most likely to smoke. It's FAR easier to avoid the situation than to resist the temptation IN the situation. At least for the first few months. Not easy, especially since my wife continued to smoke. She cut back tremendously, but couldn't pull the trigger on actually quitting. For vaping, you can't get the same flavor, but if open minded, can find others you like (I like coffee flavors). I'd quit for years but tried this last year when my wife showed interest in trying it when she couldn't quit smoking. She's done with cig's now and we use these and enjoy it. No smell, ok in the car and house, no ill effects like smoking. Different ratios of VG and PG alter how much vapor and flavor is produced (VG) and "throat hit" (PG), the scratchier feeling from smoking. Terrible term. LOL 50/50 is most popular way to go. http://www.evcigarettes.com/kanger-evod-650mah-bc-clearomizer-starter-kit/Experiment with different flavors, drop them in like refilling a zippo, but in the tank on top. Every so often you buy new coils--the heat element. You can buy the nicotine level you want and step down over time if you want. Maybe a new battery after a while, and some extra tanks for backup. A good site for the liquid: https://www.ahlusion.us/Plenty of info on youtube if you want to check it out. DO NOT go with the Blu, Eversmoke or other e-cigs you see advertised, they just plain suck and are very expensive. Not nearly as good, but they're attractive due to their size and shape factor. You can find those kits too, but will quickly want to get away from that form factor. Just something to consider if you find yourself falling off the wagon, or want to try something other than the gum, that doesn't really address the habit very well.

Like OG...I quit a long time ago, after 20 years of smoking, started at age 14. I went to the doctor and he spotted a 'bump' on that thing that hangs down in the middle of your throat. He pointed it out to me in a mirror. I was terrified. He told me not to worry, it wasn't cancer yet....it was just a "pre-cancerous" polyp. It hadn't turned to cancer...."Yet". I had my last cigarette 'before' I walked into his office. I never lit another one. The first two weeks were....difficult. But the long years after that were the hardest, but what made it easy was knowing, I mean "KNOWING" I would never again put a cigarette in my mouth. You have to 'know' you quit. You can't 'try' to quit. That is the difference IMHO. Once you've made up your mind, it's just going through the motions. Not that hard. It's been decades, and still wish I could smoke, but it's just a fleeting thought. I know I can't....so it passes immediately. You have to get that into your head....'then' it becomes easy. Worked for me. You won't be sorry. I wish I'd never smoked. It's a stupid habit, that gives you nothing in return. At least "Morphine" or "Opium" will get you 'high'. Cigarettes get you, nothing, but cancer......just think about it. Use your head. That pre-cancerous bump went away in a few years. It could very well have been on my lung, and I probably would have died of lung cancer. Funny how dangerous it is to you, when you can 'see' it...... 'Humans'.....lol.....

Stay at it. It's worth getting rid of that nasty monkey. You know what made me quit? I joined the Corps of Cadets in college and they were making me run five miles a day. No gum, no patch. Just a sheer sense of self-preservation.

A long time ago when I was in my early twenties I smoked like a smoke stack as all my friends. I had some problems not related to smoking and went to see a specialist. He said quit smoking and you will feel so much better and he way very strong on the subject. I was young and knew it all so I kept smoking. Six months later I found out that doctor died of lung cancer - I quite smoking that day.

Quitting gets easier every day that are off them. Took me a few years before I stopped having the occasional urge, then suddenly one day you are turned off by the smell of the smoke (and the smell of those that still smoke!). Stay strong!
