Nice.. Honest. There was also a two part review by Derek Davis in PC Pilot.. At the time of the writing the sim was still not finished. Patrt two will cover the sim now that it is complete.

From the Armchair General Review:

"I have only three complaints...

The first is that the single-player campaign can become stale after several missions. The mission briefings do not provide any background for the mission or the campaign;"

I got bored after just a handful of missions also. The only reason I am so passionate about this is that BoS would be soooo good if they would create a traditional campaign of substance. Right now owning BoS is like owning a Ferrari with a flat tire...I can't drive it, but it could be easily fixed.

This theme is almost becoming universal in reviews by the masses as well as gaming writers. Adding more planes and maps won't fix the SP Campaign. Only fixing the SP Campaign will fix the SP Campaign. Why won't 1CGS fix the SP Campaign?

"Nuff" said. smile

This was what stuck out to me the most...

Quote:
Debriefing
Without a doubt, this is a nice addition to the IL2 series. It almost feels like a reboot of the original IL2, taking us back to the Eastern Front with a select set of planes on a new gaming engine. The graphics and level of detail for the planes, cockpit, landscape and ground units are superb. Dawn and dusk visuals are simply beautiful as the sun beams through the clouds. The game runs flawlessly; I’ve yet to see a game crash in the countless of hours I’ve been playtesting. Some gamers have experienced lockups or crashes, but these may be limited and the developers try to quickly address them.

I have only three complaints, which I’m sure will be polished since the developers are still working on the sim since its official October 2014 release. The first is that the single-player campaign can become stale after several missions. The mission briefings do not provide any background for the mission or the campaign; it just tells you what you need to do to technically complete the mission. The second is that the unlocking of plane modifications and skins can feel like a chore, but this can be a good learning experience for those new to the sim. The third is that there aren’t many multiplayer options. The number of servers is limited, along with the number of missions in their rotation, and players cannot create their own servers yet. For many who are part of an online squadron, this can be a frustrating wait since many may want to learn and experience IL2-Battle of Stalingrad with friends.

Overall, I can’t complain about the sim too much, since it is still really in development. It is a welcome addition to the IL2 series, and it is visually immersive. I expect to keep flying this sim, but mostly online.

Armchair General Rating: 92% at current development

The single player is to me a built made in rush straight from QMB. What amaze me is their insistence on forcing people to play it, due to the unlocks.
They would have saved them selves a lot of grief and noise.
And I just cannot think of a reason not to build a career and campaign like in ROF.
I hope they will do so, just to show their ambitions to keep this splendid sim alive

LOL.

It boggles the mind that a review highlights the fact that SP, MP and unlocks are boring, limited and a chore. Yet it still gets 92%.

Another review site gets put on the ignore list. No way no how this crud should get close to 92%.

92 percent? Guess I won't ever consult that website for a review of a possible purchase in the future.

But the future of humankind depends on the existence of BOS, if BOS fails the sky will fall, it may be total crap but it's all the crap we deserve.

But the SP, unlocks, presets etc. isn't that big of a deal, the core of the game is solid and awesome thus deserving a near 10. banghead

The core of the game is solid?

you mean the core that has funky FM's with aircraft that wobble around the sky doing cobras and He-111's that can put Pitts specials to shame with low level aerobatic routines, systems management that is considered complex because you have to push one button, trims that cannot be mapped to an axis, damage models that simply break along clean lines so the aircraft look like LEGO models falling apart, weird choices for planesets, AAA that know if you are an ace or a rookie, total lack of representation of the actual ground war that Stalingrad actually was?

but it deserves a 10 because of....you know....collideable trees and dog noises.

Not long ago, as darkness was coming on... I had to ditch 7 to 10 kilometers behind enemy lines. Groping through thick stands of fir trees, I collided with one and was somewhat dazed, but somehow the collision had heightened my ability to hear.....and in the darkness......I could here the faint barking of a dog..........Hypothermia was setting in as I stumbled towards the noise...Anything, even captivity would be better than freezing to death. Through the ebbing light...I spotted him...with that reassuring barking....That dog led me....to a front line German unit....and I was safe..Safe at last. Thank you collideable trees....and dog noises..thank you.

Well you will sit with only DCS WW2 as the only WW2 oriented game with developer support. And right now it suck at being WW2, no map and terrible effects.
And it suit no new simmer.
I think a what ever quality any sim liked by some are a good thing

1C could do the decent thing and release the CloD source code to Team Fusion, it's clear they have the skills to do the job and it's only fair that people who have paid for the game should have continued support on their purchase, they do after all still sell the game.
DCS will get there, new maps and aircraft are coming, it may feel a bit glacial paced but it's up to 3rd parties to step up to the plate....maybe 777 should do a DCS module.
