Hi,
I have spotted a Short Stirling on another site (sim-outhouse) and it would appear to be for a sim called FSX of which I have no prior knowledge, I read about it being discontinued ? I read of FSX deluxe and gold and of acceleration , latter being ok for win8 despite another thread saying wont run on win8.

All a bit confusing.

What do I need to get of these FSX variations to fly this Stirling on a win7 64bit pc with latest graphics card (4mb GTX 970)

Is it a discontinued sim, I see its Microsoft so that surprises me, or does it ? !

Gold version comes with Acceleration IIRC. Missing out on a few features if you only buy deluxe.

You have a link to the Stirling? Is it payware or freeware? Do you want to buy a game for one aircraft?

Hi,
yes I would buy a game for one aircraft.

link to Stirling
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?64393-Short-Stirling-in-FSX

I think its free, ... havent looked deeper yet to find out, there are also Halifaxes I see and more...

I have wanted to fly and view Stirlings Wellingtons hampdens Whitleys Halifax Series 1 and Battles and Blenheims ever since sims appeared as pixelated 2D things many moons ago.

Magnificent beasts, yet all we have are fighters.

shame though there wont be fido, or flak, or anything that is the bomber version of what fighter sims throw at the aircraft.

Even wartime airfields, or are there 1940/41 airfields to be had for FSX ?

I will also readily buy a game if it will run the Lotus JPS 98T of Senna.

No one is creating these classic eras.

BOBC,we seem to have similar tastes for British aircraft.

I would much rather fly a mission in a Battle or a Hampden than a Spitfire or Hurricane. I guess we prefer the underdog eh?

At least we have the Blenheim (and soon the Wellington) in CloD smile

Hi Chucky,
All the years of knowing about our brave lads and the great aircraft we in the UK flew such as Stirlings, Wimpys, Battles, hampdens, halifaxes, Beauforts, Blenheims. denial makes me pursue them even more.

There is a MASSIVE chunk of GB aviation history ignored completely, simply because the sim developers are not GB !

ditto why we dont get to see them much in scale modelling.

We wont ever get to see these in their true space unless a GB fan with cad and coding ability tackles them, and the mission and assoc scenery and effects, but imagine a dusk drive out to a stirling , standing huge, climb on board, walk through it, start engines, and the searchlights and flak, markers, then return home on three engines, land amidst fido.

I can do the cad, but no interest from TF in doing the coding etc, night scenes are difficult.

just so refreshingly different to current sims, though I heavily look fwd to a realistic fighter BoB scene, also longed for that for decades.
TF will be developing non BoB aircraft though, as opposed to those mentioned which are BoB. Not sure why but the efforts required are being channeled elsewhere.

If they went for my dream, it would be of great interest, to us GB types anyway !

I might do a poll, just to see who would like a Bomber Command sim !

There was a night bombing sim under development that went nowhere,I'm struggling to remember its name. Was it Target for Tonight? Shame,it would have suited us well.

Although I gave up on the old IL2 a while back I may have to look at the list of flyables in modded IL2 but I'm pretty sure there are no Hampdens,Battles etc.

Hi, having resigned myself to flying Stirling from some modern civil airport...I then discover an ageing sim that is being given as much makeover as the supporters have time for, with aims of reaching current standards, ...so they and I hope, that is the mission anyway, using Microsoft Combat Flight sim 3 and their add ons. ETO mods bring it forward, but still some way to go, and there is a Cologne mission pack, Stirlings, Halifaxes etc. flak searchlights and so on.
Also a Hamburg pack where you get to be a Luft nightfighter.

I think I will give that a try, and probably end up wishing that it could mate with FSX and we get a refined models skins product with ww2 effects etc.

I think I shall plump for FSX at that price as I could get some nice stills of the Stirling at dusk etc.

Not sure if anyone has done WW2 airfields for it but it can't be that difficult to create one surely.

um...what is a bucket list ?

Chucky

We have shared a few posts before about Brit planes - I am also a big fan - have you checked this out for IL2 1946

Its a bomber command mod and has correct loadouts for Lancaster, Halifax III, Wellington III, Whitley V, Mosquito IV, Mosquito XVI, Blenheim IV and Fairey Battle - all are now mods available for IL2 - sadly no Stirling or Hampden but they've got the rest.
