I've had headaches and a metallic taste in my mouth on and off for about several months now. I admitted myself to the Post Hospital (Fort Leavenworth) following a lymph node swelling in my right arm-pit on the 14th. I kinda put it off for awhile but my girlfriend was worried and forced me to go. Tests were done, results are in and it turns out I have a brain tumor on my right cerebral hemisphere (surface). The prognosis is 20/80, the 20 being the potential proposition that it could kill me. They're starting me on a variety of anti-cancer drugs in hopes that surgery won't be necessary, but its unknown that it will work or not. As is the case with all chemotherapy and radiation treatments. I'm thoroughly looking forward to my bones feeling like they're being crushed and blasted with napalm and my veins turning black. Sounds awesome! As of right now though, I'm at the point that I had wished I had died in combat. I came close three times. I was shot once and wounded by frag twice and I survived. It's a bit disconcerting to think about the whole mortality thing while be fully conscience and lying in a hospital bed. Moral of the story - If you think something is wrong, go see a doctor. Don't put it off.

Bad luck for sure DetCord but keep a positive outlook on it if possible for you. I survived melanoma, my co-worker survived breast cancer and another co-worker survived a tumor in his leg. MD Anderson Cancer Center here in Houston is one of the best in the U.S. if you have a choice of treatment centers. You and family can also stay for free in a nice hotel/house/apt unit near the Medical Center which is supported by private corporate/individual/trust donations for that purpose. I'm sorry to hear that you are faced with that and my best wishes to you for a complete recovery. Rate details: Fisher Houses are for members of the military, family members and veterans ONLY. All room fees for guest families at all Army, Navy, and Air Force Fisher Houses are paid by Fisher House Foundation. http://www.joeshouse.org/Lodging/tabid/55/Default.aspx

Ouch, sorry to hear about this. Your "witty" announcement to the whole thing is impressive, and thanks for the very sound tip. I never hear it enough.
Wishing you a full recovery.
Cheers, Slug

It makes me feel like all the problems I have are such a small thing. My thoughts are with you, and your family.
Take care...

Both my parents went through exactly this. I'm sorry to say you are going to have some bad days. As well as better ones.
I pray you have peace of mind and the strength and patience to see this through.
Question everything!

I knew someone who had cancer once. They went to the hospital, had surgery, got chemo, the whole nine yards.
All seemed fine, and then 30 years later they died.

Well, damn.
But look on the bright side of chemo - bald heads are all the fashion these days!
Seriously, godspeed on an effective treatment.

Seems this life deals everyone, who survives long enough, a little treat at some time or another. You've got yours now. And I'm betting most of us guys, who are old enough, have ours. I think everyone gets one or two, in a long life. We just deal with it, I suppose. Good luck with yours DetCord. I mean that sincerely. It's not over....till it's over. Murphy.
