I did a clean install of LB2 and the sound is still not working properly. The problem must be the sound setting for the game coming through my computer got messed up.

Edit: FIXED

For all creative sound card users who might experience the same problem it was one checkbox BURIED in the options menu, SURROUND. At least in my case, surround had to be checked for the sound to work in LB2.

Good find, Jave. Glad you got it sorted out. Audio seems to be the biggest problem in LB2 right now!

Haven't had a chance to really test the game since I fixed the sound, I've been pretty sick this week, but doing the clean install bums me out because I was experimenting with different fixes and something I did got the "black screen at end of mission" to actually work and the missions were ending properly. Now I did the clean install I might have to start all over and figure out what I did to get the end of mission screens haha

Wow. Would be good to know what you did to get the missions to end properly.

Did everything in flyboys longbow install guide plus used my color washout fix for the game.
http://www.filedropper.com/lb2colorfix
Fixed the stutter/freeze problem by changing compat from windows xp sp 2 or 3 to nothing just run as admin.

2 weeks now no freezes, finished both campaigns

only problems are:

1. helicopter rudder turns extremely slow compared to longbow 1

2. inaccurate rockets currently testing stuff to fix this. The I-beam does not line up with target in target lock. They fall short of target. LB1 mentioned that the rocket pylons were able to turn slightly to adjust to horizontal or vertical firing. Tested in master-mode indirect fire with no change..

3. Finding custom campaigns on web, and figuring out how to extract the individual campaign missions(like longbow gold did) to the longbow clipboard in create a mission area.

4. hair thin cockpit lines in cockpit, not a major problem at all.

I turned smoke effects all the way down, stinger missles now look like a glow tracking it's target at night pretty awesome.

I'll have to be brief for now as am replying from my phone...

1) The slow yaw is a common issue on modern PCs... it's to do with too much CPU speed.

2) Low-hitting HE rockets are also a side-effect of CPU speed. Fire MPSM rockets from a hover out to around 2km for best results.

3) The programs 'ChopperMAX' and 'Missioneer' on my website will save out campaign missions as single missions.

4) A result of forcing game to run at higher screen resolutions. Can sometimes be alleviated by running game at multiples of stock 640x480 screen resolution, e.g. 1280x960, etc.

You or some other longbow site that taught you how to install the game posted the 2 glide.dll files that work with lb2. I lost them. I tried the ones off dgvoodoo for beta 1.50 and they dont work.

Link to the 2 .dlls?

EDIT >>>>>>>>>>> I found them.

Just wanted to post this up.

I got LB2 running on my Win 10 Pro Dell XPS 8900 lat night.
Tried to just do a normal install and see what happens but the 2209 patch wouldn't run and LB2 wouldn't launch in any of the compatibility modes. The eventual fix was easy as pie: I just copied the folder contents from my Win 8.1 laptop over to the Win 10 machine and VIOLA it all runs great! Haven't fleshed it all out yet but typical crashes like external views, weps firing, and destruction of other vehicles gave no glitches at all, at least in "instant action" or one of the "single action" missions which btw was a "fail" mission wise. Even found some 64bit drivers to get my X-45 and it's editor fully functional even with some of my old profiles.

I want to try unchecking some of the core/hyperthreading boxes to see what it's like slowed down.
Also want to play with the cfg graphics settings, right now I THINK it's in "software mode".

So basically all is well ( so far ) in Win 10 world :-)

I took the working version of LB2 off my pc some time ago to free up space, now trying to put back on using
http://digitality.comyr.com/flyboy/lb2/setup/setup.html and v3 version.

hearing base music for 1 sec with a quick crash to desktop when I click the lb2 icon with wrapdll.dle error.

V2 was working for me if anyone still has that.

Ok So I Got Longbow 2 working again and if anyone wants to play this great sim:
-download v3 full install at that site
-I had to also do this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEkoK3EHOlU to solve the bex errors
and wrap.dle errors
-To slow it down to normal had to turn on vsync on nvidia settings
next put the dgvoodoo stuff in game directory from extra folder in v3 rar you downloaded
-Ran dgvoodoo setup for the game following screen shots at flyboys site
-ran the game with my color fixer .bat for washed out sections of the game

Direct draw vs D3d

low screen resolution in dgvoodoo wrapper

higher res set in the wrapper

also forgot to mention if you are getting a flightd3.dle error it is because the lb2cfg.exe is set to direct 3d or software instead of 3DFX

John, thanks for this thread. Di d you only use the v3 full install, and no other tweaks or fixes from Flyboy's page you linked?

Thanks,

Eugene

John, I wasn't able to see your color fix bat at your link. Is it still available? Color palette is looking very pale pastel!

Also, I used the late Positive G's WAC fix, immediately fixed my immediate CTD when trying to launch LB2. Otherwise, just the V3 LB2 directory, Glide and 1920x1080 rez. No stutters, no chopper crashes due to blade stalls. Nice!

Awesome! my color fix is on the v3 download rar link it is in the extras folder called lb2colorfix.zip of the main FLY-LB2-WIN-FIX(V3).zip download on flyboys site. Move the .bat to the longbow 2 folder and it runs the game without having the color washout problem.

Then you need to beat both longbow 1 campaigns!

The replay-ability is VERY high on longbow 2. The missions are not alike each time. The cool thing with LB2 is that you fly your campaign and missions with 4 flights of 8 aircraft flying a different mission while you are on your specific mission. In those 8 you choose what kind of helicopters does the mission and what you want to pilot from blackhawk(pilot/door gunner), kiowa, apache or longbow. I believe you can also be a wingman if you don't want to lead a mission. You get to choose the weapons of all 8 helicopters you fly with on the mission. The helicopters that you control and don't control can call in artillery or an a-10 even an f-16 if they spot an enemy fighter. you have a screen on your helicopters that tells you if they completed their mission or not. Sometimes you will finish before sometime you will have to wait for them to finish their mission before you win the game. You can always rearm and help them out as well. the waypoint editor always them to hover over an area for a specific amount of time allowing you do do this. The battlefield talks to you as well including tanks.

Thanks, and I agree - Recluse and I use to fly LB2 a LOT, in earlier Windows and graphic card days. We used to fly with +G, Shadow, Fritz, and a few others on Saturday big chopper clumps. Even back then it was difficult to get all pilots' games working properly especially in MP. But when it worked, it was the best.

I have installed the lb2 bat from the site and it runs - in the desert, unclear how much of a difference. I didn't have any Base screen issues without it.

Regarding Longbow Gold, have you been able to run it on a modern machine, Win 10 preferably, in GLIDE? If you or anyone has this working, please let me know. I'd love to get back to it. LB1 missions often had an edge over any random, average LB2 mission in the sense that the LB1 missions were handcrafted; the LB2's are generated from the dynamic campaign generator. Don't get me wrong! We loved the LB2 campaign. But I would still enjoy the original two if I could get it working in Glide.

In 1997 you had to buy the graphics card with the game! I bought a Diamond Viper V550 (amazing 640 x 480 graphics) and a MSI mobo with an AGP slot to play it. Remember they used to have flight sim graphics on all the video card boxes cause games like LB2 where pushing development?

I just bought a CH Products Fighterstick, Combatstick (I'll sell the one I play with least) and Pro Throttle USB so I'm collecting long loved games while I wait for it to arrive, and this game is in the top 5 of old games I'm wanna fire up (yeah, I bought Commanche too, we'll see...:)

Smile when you check your 6. That's me in the rearview mirror!

the download link flags in my Avast as having threats/malware and some nasty sounding ones at that - is this a false positive, are the links safe?

Agathosdaimon - The LB2.EXE is notorious for flagging up as a false-positive, and as that's obviously included in the download package, it will set alarm bells ringing. Yes it is safe, I promise you.
