Once you get the hang of it, this method is really easy and quite precise.

Building facilities (xml files that define building placement of different installations like airfields, train stations, etc) works the same in CFS3 and WOFF. And Lou has already demonstrated he knows how to get it to show up in game.

Gecko, I have played a bit with GMAX creating xml output using the above tutorial with no real problem, but from that point on it is a clear as mud. How to integrate the facility XML into the game is not clear. Of course there are other issues such as skin rendering for the facility.

Would be nice to find a tutorial that covers it all from A to Z.

Any further advice is appreciated. PM me if you think this is OT for this thread.

Lou, this tutorial seems about long and detailed enough; and also is about texturing, it seems.

There is a fairly long list of landmarks that would look great on the landscape
Cheers

We will remember them.

I agree Ted, with historic aerodromes being my main focus in those landmarks at the moment. If I can get my current Boistrancourt mod to where I want it to be I'd like to produce an entire series of airfields to offer to the WOFF community.

Could it have to have the longitude/latitude numbers correctly in the files?
I though I heard something like that, when I switched through above tutorial.

...which is exactly what I had hoped you to say, Lou!
I have already started a pilot with Jasta 5. Now they are at Gonnelieu, but in 2 weeks they will
have to move to Boistrancourt - hint, hint, nudge, nudge!

Thanks Lou, appreciated!!

P.S: have you ever considered using your magic for the inflight map? I have tried, but I miserably failed.

You are quite welcome ArisFuser. Yes, I have tried soooooooo many times to make improvements to the inflight map but as Pol and others have pointed out, the sheer scale of that map makes it nearly impossible to get any more definition to it while keeping it a workable size that the sim, and our computers, can handle. I say 'nearly impossible' as there is always the chance that someone will come up with the right mojo to make it happen.

I guess the inflight map is such a large one-piece-file, that you cannot have it
with any finer detail - otherwise the devs would have tried it.
Imagine you call up an inflight map with 12 MB or more - I guess many a system
would produced a long load time, and maybe kick you out of WOFF?

A larger size doesn't really help much Olham as the sim shrinks it down anyway to fit in the display window. Already been down that road only to find it a dead end.

Excellent work!

Devs, hire this man and put him to work creating historical airfields. Then you may release them as an expansion pack. smile
