There is a Volume Control plugin for TS that I used to use when racing --

Great videos Fridge. Nice to see how other people fly the Shark.

So is it appropriate to call "Rifle" when firing Vikhrs from the Shark? I always just said "Vikhr", but I can see why one would say "Rifle" instead...

soapbox

Last time I flew online I got accused of babying my Shark because I was being so methodical (and slow). I'm still coming to grips with mapping my controls and it takes some time to get back into it. Besides which, I try to fly with self preservation in mind and try not to take needless risks. The veteran fliers should remember that not everyone is a natural born killer...

Thanks for that tip WC.. I also need to get TS Overlay working (I assume it works with DCS World?).. I always found that helpful to figure out who I was talking to if I didn't recognize voices..

Is the Ka-50 Data-Link line-of-sight? I was interested when EP made the comment about taking some damage and maybe his DL wasn't showing your proper location, but then you were deep in that valley and was wondering if the DL needs LOS to update positions?

It must have been damage because shortly after that he came floating up the valley to my left and passed by. I didn't see any damage, but you never know, but we were LOS at that point. Just before the start of the first video, I had my link on and Einstein couldn't see me. I had to cycle the data link power switches and get out of and go back to the wingman knob position and the #2 id position, then he could see me.

Maybe it's just a finicky system.

And I can imagine you being any more gentle that I was in that flight. That was my first online flight with the Ka-50 and my first pair of kills in a live environment. Other than that I have been taking baby steps with the mission editor and only recently have gotten a little more 'aggressive' with the controls. Firing on Container Box Red 1 in the mission editor doesn't count for a live kill, luckily my wingman was there to draw fire and give me minutes to think about, line up and press the pickle button.

Also not shown, the three times I tried to fly before that, all ending with me making large mistakes. I was a nervous as a first time lover but Einstein was gentle :-)

Yes it is. It piggybacks on the VHF radio.

I have a second monitor that TS is on.

If you get the Overlay working let us know...

We did fly some Hueys tonight w/o disconnect problems. Good news, maybe a Master Server update fixed it.

The overlay works for me randomly, one day it will, one day it wont, dunno why.

I've since resorted to just loading TS Remote App on my phone and sitting that next to my main screen so i can see who's talking in the room.

Might have something to do with FullScreen vs Windowed, etc etc.

Einstein, I had this same issue when flying the A-10C. Whenever I hit my PTT for TS3 (Mic Switch UP on my HOTAS) the "center" point of my stick would be changed in the sim. Example, if I was using full left stick and hit my PTT - when I released it, full left would be center in game (with RCTRL_Enter up) requiring full right stick to be wings level and being unable to roll right except via rudder!

The culprit turns out to be bad controller configs from previous versions. Re-building resolved this every time. That's also why it can happen on only one aircraft or even one axis for that matter!

That is a cruelty of DCS updates. It's a lot of work to make controls (times each module) so you're sorely tempted to load backup LUA files across version numbers but it's a bad idea as they have compatibility issues.

I remember that night ("Einstein Tries JTAC") and I remember being quite impressed by your approach, Beach. It takes more skill to go slow than fast, scouting for threats before charging ahead. If your goal is to land safely at the end of the day, there's no better method. I find myself falling into the "scoot forward and shoot stuff" camp because of the whole thrill of combat, but when I look back on my flying events, I remember most the nights I landed safely, not the nights where I got dozens of kills in between respawns. So kudos to you.

The effect of LOS is modeled in the sim for Ka-50 datalink connections. As Fridge pointed out, we were on top of each other, so I don't think that was it. It might have been that the few MBT rounds I had taken in the face jiggled a wire loose or something. Excellent case of not sweeping forward carefully enough. I actually thought I was low enough to hide from that tank, but I either misjudged where the tank was actually located or he was shooting at me blind with his shells arcing over the little hill between us. In hindsight, Fridge had the better position, down valley and behind a big vertical ridge.

Ah, good point! The dreaded "Trimmer Reset" ghost mapping! I never use this feature (intentionally) but I think that would exactly explain what happened to me. I'll look into it tonight, thanks for the insight! I'll need to look at my other platforms, too, make sure it's not there. BTW, what did you mean by "re-building"? Redefining configs from default?

I didn't copy any files, but I notice that sometimes, after an update, I have extra keys bound in my config files. A quick check I try to perform is look for the same button mapped across all controllers (e.g., JOY_BTN_3), which I never actually do. What a pain, though.

All right you hot-shot Shark pilots.

Vulcans vs Sharks is playing this weekend. Join the Hollo Pointe server to see Vulcans and Hueys take out Red Ka-50s. All we need are a few good Red Ka-50 pilots.

Skoop, I will try to add in some Hawks to Vulcans vs Sharks, looks like the MP issues have been addressed.
edit --> It's not listed in my v1.2.12. So, when is the Hawk going to be included in a regular release?

Hrm...no Trimmer Reset mapping to my HOTAS. The keyboard command is LCtrl+T - wonder if I accidentally hit it? Anywho, to remove possibility of that happening, I cleared it from the keyboard map.

Wreck, if you're looking for requests, P-51s could be fun to fly on the Red side of Vulcans vs. Sharks - ground attack role to help with the fight, guns for the helos, and no RWR, MWS, flares, or chaff to spice up the adventure of it all! I know I'd fly a Mustang for the Red on that mission.

OK, EP,
I will add P-51Ds to the Red side.

Vulcans vs Sharks will have:
Blue: 2x A-10C, 2x Hueys with Stingers from Nalchik away from the action, 4x Hueys with Stingers at the close in FARP that Red has to destroy
Red: 4x Ka-50s from Beslan, 2x P-51Ds. There are already AI Mi-8Ts, do you want some Mi-8T Clients? I can add Mig-21Bis...

Also Combined Arms for both sides.

FYI, I won't be changing the Blue attacking force that has armor, lots of Vulcans, and Chaparrals.

Changes made to Vulcans vs Sharks. Red can fly MiG-21s and P-51Ds (that is sooo weird).

There is a new update that I put onto Hollo Pointe -- 1.2.12.35194.574. All missions have been saved with it.

Sorry! The best way to put it is to simply delete your configuration file with DCS closed, and allow it to build a new default one on startup.
Since the format between sim versions changes, editing an old config file will never resolve the issue - it still cannot be properly read.

No keymaps show incorrect as I have found, the file just cannot be loaded properly by the simulator even if it all looks perfect in the control editor.

-----

For anyone with basic spreadsheet skills - I recommend making one to list all your configuration settins in the event something goes wrong. I create three columns. Down the first I list the buttons/switches/axis that are available on my HOTAS (For those with HOTAS warthog, some spots like the middle setting of the FLAPS switch are not recognized as a button, but rather as "off" or "not the other two spots" - so mark these accordingly!) Down the second column I type in DCS's name for the function being mapped - "Landing Gear Toggle", "Flaps UP" etc. In the third column I list any "modifiers" present - this is mainly for axis, where I list changes in deadzones, curves, inversion, and the like. Make a separate sheet in the workbook for each aircraft you fly. Print for safe keeping!

The Huey is a blast. The Vulcans vs Sharks Hueys are lightweight with just two machine guns, and taking off and landing those helped to refine my landing techniques -- crash, crash, land, repeat. Working to refine a hover.

Took the lessons to Huey Apocalypse and that was fun.

There is a HAVOK on the ground that was shot down by my Stingers in Vulcans vs Sharks --
