No, since they were able to protect themselves, and since their range was often beyond the range of any fighter. A trip to London or to Paris and back takes couple hours. Scouts didn't have the range for that. HTH

Closest to protecting the big birds in a scout might be to enlist in a Jasta which is based
near a Gotha airfield - then you may sometimes get "airfield defense" mission for them.

Which brings me to the question: where are the Gotha bases? Must look that up...

Yes, this is not WW2. The fighter aircraft have very limited ranges and they simply can't follow a Gotha to London and back, for example.

Actually the Germans were hampered by the same problem also in WW2. Their Bf 109 fighters didn't have an adequate fuel load for long escort missions during the Battle of Britain.

However, the Gotha is not an easy target, and they are particularly difficult to intercept at night.

If you just want to protect some Gothas from a flight or two of enemy fighters (and who could fault you for that?) load up a QC mission.

SALUTE TO ALL!

We draw some bombing missions short enough to allow a fighter escort.
Haven't had an escort yet, so perhaps it didn't happen historically?
