I'm having serious problems spotting other aircraft. When dogfighting with a buddy we had to verbally direct each other back to the fight, it got really stupid after a while. Are there any mods that change the way 3d models appear and disappear at distance? (Using labels is not an option)

I think IL2BOS does a good job with the view distance.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll try that mod.

Did it work, and how good is the effect?

It removes everything but the ' symbol from labels. That particular one makes them all black as well. The one I'm using is similar, but I've tweaked some things. Trying to find a way to tweak it so that it'll be more realistic by changing size at different ranges.

Which one are you using Scrim? The most annoying feature in this mod is that sometimes you can see the dot through your cockpit! The black colour can be tweaked to a mid gray which looks much better. Overall it's far from perfect but while we wait for EDGE, is much better than what we have now.

"Using labels is not an option"

Why not?.......Modify the label to a single character (I use a full stop coloured red)and I guarantee you your understanding of the importance of visual scan , situational awareness and the phrase "Lose sight lose the fight" will increase immeasurably.

Yeah, but I meant labels ... as in big blue and red text. Now we have tiny dots using the label functionality and that works for me. I was not aware that it was an option before. I also hope the whole thing will be fixed when edge is released.

Did a finnish Mig-21 intercept (of TU-22 Backfire) mission today. I'm really getting back into this game.

This is great! No more red and blue words flying all over the sky. Thanks for that link. Do I mention that this is great?

I've scrambled together a heavily WIP caveman smart scaling with the labels file, feel free to try it, mod it however you want (it's after all just the regular Labels.lua file that I've been adjusting) and feedback on it: http://www.filedropper.com/labels

It works in a simple way. At 2km through 30km, all you see is a ' symbol. At 2km it's transformed to a * symbol and at 1km it turns into a # symbol. Very basic, still has different colours for different sides (having a hard time deciding on one colour for all, or different colours to compensate for the AI's horribly bad teamwork in communication even when they start chasing a bogey that's on your tail) and labels for ground units and ships.

If you want to remove label symbols, simply remove what's inside the quotation symbols. Colour is adjusted at the bottom. The e.g. 30000 numbers after Format means the range in meters, you can change these, add new ones, delete, etc. as you want to.

Trindade, I just wanted to thank you for helping me out with this label mod. I just had an hour or so of dogfighting with against the Mig-15 and it really works wonders. I still get them on my tail and get killed all the time but at least now I can spot them before they are on my six.

As a side note, I think the canopy glint that Mig alley had was really innovative and I hope this is something we will see in the future.
