I've been a in a few dogfights in campaign mode in my trusty Sopwith Pup and it really feels to me like the "feeling of flight" mechanics have been improved very nicely. There seems to be just enough wind buffeting now that I can't always hold my sights directly on an opponent without constant adjustment in most cases- which is awesome.

Not only that, but how the plane responds to stick inputs just feels better too. Feels less like on rails and more like I'm moving something around that has some weight to it. The pup feels more like a real plane when I fly it now. Anybody else experiencing this or am I imagining it?

Here's a campaign dogfight of my pup squadron engaging some huns. Beautiful stuff.

Also, Winder - your scenery upgrades are just insane. Between the bump mapping, tree & cloud shadows and whatever other magic you have worked, the WOFF V2 scenery is just fantastic! Hats off to your mad skills sir.

The scenery is really great now, and I loved it before the upgrade. There is something about the graphics in this game that is really special and adds a extra level of attitude that you don't see in other sims. I guess it just looks real.

The more I fly, the more convinced I am that OBD has made some really good changes to how the aircraft respond to stick input to make it feel more realistic and also they got the wind buffeting effect spot on. It's just fabulous to fly and fight in these aircraft, now more than ever.

Also, the scenery is just stunning. Even the Youtube videos don't do it all justice because they lose so much detail compared to what can actually be seen on your monitor. Even so, the lighting effects - bump mapping, shadows, etc are incredibly immersive. It just draws you right into the scene.

I'm not a Camel jockey but I figured I'd have a go against some DR1s in Quick Combat. What a fantastic fight. I really had to work for it the entire time and in the end...well, I just made a dumb mistake in a plane I'm not that skilled in.

Looking at the FMs, there was a change this fall for a lot of them. So, yes, I would say that they "tweaked" them since v1.26.

So my Pup campaign pilot gets a reccy escort mission. While behind enemy lines, our scouts get dived upon by a flight of Albs. I stay and fight. Big mistake. Nobody else does. LOL So I try to hold them off as best I can, but things are much harder now. Not so easy to stay out of all of their guns. I eventually find one of my flight but not enough to turn the tide. Here is the fight, already in progress.

The fm's were tweaked?
I found that there was a big problem flying in WoFF after discovering the size of the camel rudder was far too large, and a quick hard rudder brought you to a full stop mid air.
I sent in a description of the bug, but it wasnt addressed as far as I know.
I hacked the files to make the rudder smaller, which helped things a lot...but there were other planes with the same issue....

Was this issue addressed before v.2?

That was fixed way back in January with patch 1.12b. Item number 12 on the list.

15 Jan 2014
V1.12b 4204

1) Increased frequency of claims checking and also processed claim backlogs if they build up at home office.
2) Fixed a skins bug on the Nieuport 24 Basic variant (4 variants now not 3).
3) When enlisting a players Rank is now only limited to the lowest level when going for training.
4) Fixed a Nieuport N11 availability bug in ESC102 database file.
5) Bombing missions added to 1915 2-seater ops.
6) Increased theatre activity in 1914/15/16 and overall weightings.
7) Introduced Target performance evaluation as opposed to only waypoint.
8) Fixed a bug where quite a few 2 Seater squads would not bomb behind enemy lines when OOB was defensive.
9) 2 Seaters are now more aggressive in 1915 and carry out bombing missions.
10) Dual Role squads outcomes Details display now accounts for observers in 2 seaters when they fly.
11) Missing pilots have no other status messages associated with them.
12) Sopwith Camel FM rudder size changed.
13) Added ability to add Fokker DR.1 in claim form in 1917.
14) New Feature: Top centre Message Display (Shift+D) now indicates when it is turned on "Message Display On" (TAC must be off).
15) New Feature: Top centre Message Display now includes Command Responses in addition to Urgent Messages.
16) New Feature: Workshops now includes a setting to turn off (hide) waypoints in the in-game map for real hardcore users.
17) Differences between Realistic Medium and Easy FM settings in workshops made more noticeable -
NOTE: We strongly recommend Realistic setting. Also if you suddenly note a 'difference' in FM with 1.12 check your settings are set to Realistic.

I suppose it could be placebo, but flying my Albatros around felt a lot more...intuitive? since the update. The controls feel a little more responsive, but on the other hand I can sense when 'my' momentum is sliding me one way going into a turn or bank. I feel a little more confident predicting how my plane will respond and reacting accordingly.

Awesome job, OBD!
