I have always been fascinated with mods and have great respect for guys who devote there spare time to making them.
Way back when I was playing ghost recon I forget the name of the guy now but he basically made a complete add on pack for Ghost recon Maps guns missions uniforms the works I maintain it was the was the best mod I ever played.
I see the makers of Arma 3 even offering big money to there community for well made mods.
DCS allow people to sell there mods.
So what was the most impressive mod you ever used
And would you be prepared to pay for a well made mod. ?

The earliest mod I remember using was the "Aliens" mod for the original "Doom". I was blown away by how well it was made. The mod even had xenomorph eggs that would open up and it had audio clips and sound effects from the actual film. The mods that are currently used by SimHQ for Armed Assault 3 are excellent as well and they add a lot to the realism and immersion of the game.

Counter Strike before the source engine version
MWLL (Mech Warrior Living Legends)

A great mod for Crysis which had great mechwarrior gameplay and features that even the Pay2Play Mech Warrior Online still doesn't have.

Thankfully a bunch of the MWLL modders went to work for Star Citizen when the MWO license holders forced them to stop developing the mod.

Day Z seems to have been incredible successful I have never played it but I hope the guy or guys responsible for making it received Some recognition For a clever and well implemented idea.
Making mods mite be a good way of getting full time employment In the Industry.
I heard the guy I mentioned earlier was offered a job for his work on the ghost recon mod.
Just for fun I try to think of mods for various sims I play
One of my favourites was a independence day type mod for DCS I posted this idea over on the DCS forum
The hard core purists nearly had hart failure but on the whole most people liked the idea
Shame I don't possess the skills to make it.
I did try working on a set of missions for SB but I think you need a flare for mission design I simply don't have

Not a total conversion mod, but Mechjeb for Kerbal Space Program rates as my #1 mod.

Oh, forgot to mention the mods for Grand Prix Legends.

Both the 1965 car set and the 1969 car set mods were incredibly well made.

I would also say Third Age for Medieval TW2.

I also remember Meatwater's Sound Pack for EAW making a huge difference to the immersion of an already good game.

Since being on the FreeFalcon Team since FF3 was conceived, That would be the oldest mod I still have.
Love the work that has been done by the guys down in the EECH threads. That would be my second oldest mod.
Loved the time spent with the SimHQ gang on DayZ. Can't wait to get the band back together for DayZ SA.

I'd have to say something from Skyrim, but I couldn't pick just one. Or maybe the comprehensive mod for FC2. Or the mods for NFS Shift.
I can't pick.

Battlefield 2 had some awesome mods that I loved.

Power and Glory for GTR 2.

Mods that enabled historically correct markings for IL-2 1946!

The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

Another vote for Third Age for Medieval 2 Total War. The quality and scope of the mod was such that they could have sold it as a standalone full price title.

They changed pretty much everything:

- The strategic map was changed to represent Middle Earth.
- The first M2 mod where they made custom settlements maps for tactical battles so you actually had locations from the books/movies like Helms Deep.
- Completely new rosters for all the factions with brilliantly modelled and animated units, including sound effects and dialogue taken from the movies.
- All the in-game artwork replaced with new LOTR themed stuff.

And on top of that all the AI and campaign improvements over the original title.

In fact the Total War series, and the original Rome and Medieval 2 are pretty fertile ground for some seriously talented modders. If you are/were ever into Games Workshop stuff there's a great Warhammer Fantasy mod for M2, there's some really complex mods like Stainless Steel, roleplaying mods like Deus Lo Vult, all sorts of great stuff worth checking out.

Honourable mentions go to Team Fusion for proving not only can you polish a turd, but you can also turn it into a diamond. GWX for Silent Hunter 3 is still a great mod that adds massively to the original game. I'd also mention Nato Fighters 5 for Strike Fighters 2.
