Hi everyone,

I know that the WWI combat flight genre is not very widely accepted but who cares! smile

I enjoy it very much.

Anyway, I bought OFF some years ago and now WOFF is out and I don't know whether to buy it
or not.

My main concern is that if another version comes out which is a standalone, it'll render WOFF
obsolete like WOFF did OFF and its' Hat In The Ring expansion.

Can I be assured that another version of WOFF isn't coming out which is a standalone?

I just re-bought Combat Flight Simulator 3 for WOFF by the way.

Thank you,
Stefnuts

Hi Stef
There will be an expansion - known as 2.0 - for WOFF out in - let's say - two weeks. There may well be another stand alone, but prolly not in our lifetimes - getting it to this stage has pushed all of us close to making that final flight West. So no need to hold back, this version will have to make do for quite a while old_simmer
Cheers

We will remember them.

Defintely missing out on WOFF now for some possible replacement in the years to come means you are cheating yourself now of hours and hours of the best (IMHO) WW1 flight sim ever made.
And based on those hours WOFF has cost me pennies.
Cheapest investment on myself I have ever made. And I would buy it all again in a hot second but that's just my thoughts.
WOFF is highly reccomended and a very big upgrade from OFF.

I second that whole heartedly! thumbsup WOFF puts OFF to shame in comparison!

I still have OFF on my hard drive.
Only time I fire it up is to see what changed. Many things have and all for the better.

Get WOFF and run it, have fun.
I bet you don't play OFF much as time goes by.

I find the logic of the question a bit bizarre. If you think would enjoy WOFF, just buy it. If something new comes out later that in no way diminishes WOFF. What on earth can you possibly buy that won't be improved some day? With that logic a person would never own a computer, cell phone car, television, the list goes on forever.

Stef, the "speed" at which the devs possibly develop another stand-alone version
is like that of an Ettrich Taube rather than an S.E.5a - I'd guess you would have
enough time to enjoy WOFF for the next three years or so.
The huge step forward gives us very serious and historical air combat situations;
perfect for immersive single-playyer campaigns on long winter evenings.
And the "realistic" settings now deserve their name more than ever - it is not easy,
when you try to simulate the real stuff (but then there are other settings to mild
it down a bit).
My advice: If you get it you won't regret it!

Go ahead and get it!

I never played OFF and so wasn't sure about WOFF, but now I have it, I hardly ever play RoF (and even the recently-released BoS).

I only play off-line, and for me it's the best off-line experience by far compared to all the other WW1 and WW2 flight sims I've played over the years (perhaps excluding RB3D).

Btw what makes you worry that there is a replacement for WOFF in the works?

It really is a wonderful off-line combat flight sim experience.

Yep, saw somthing similar from WM a few threads back. Why not just put the effort into making a 3.0 expansion and scratch the P5 idea....

JimBobb, SHAME on you! wink (Of course, I guess we can hope...)

Seriously, though, I wouldn't hold back unless you're on the verge of foreclosure and buying WOFF will be the end of your happy home. Or put you into divorce court. Or something equally as serious.

I don't even get to fly that much; but when I do, it's the closest I've ever felt to being in a real airplane. And I don't even have the self-shadowing mods and clouds and stuff that are now being incorporated into the 2.0 release. Look at the screenshots they've been posting, and then ask yourself what kind of miracles they've pulled off to get this kind of performance out of the ancient CFS3 engine. Microsoft should give them some kind of award!

To me, I don't "play" WOFF. I experience it. I really get no particular joy out of downing an enemy; I just want to feel in some limited way what it was like to be there, in a rickety assembly of wood, fabric and wire, with your life on the line. And WOFF is the ticket there; nothing I've ever seen is close. It's a work of historic reverence.

Like I said, I just got my pilot out of training and flown one campaign mission over the course of the past 11 months, and when 2.0 comes out, I hope to be a 1st day buyer (again).

So don't hesitate, my friend. You won't regret it.

Best,

Tom

It was my way of saying (for those that remember the old phases) dont hold your breath...we are still working on umm V2.0 expansion (and it installs ON TOP of WOFF).
At this moment in time we are not even thinking about what the future holds in terms of product lineage.

At the moment its all for WOFF.

One thing I can say - we have no intention of stopping work on WW1 development so you can join us for the ride or wait 10 years.... give or take... and we should be done.

Short: no good reason to wait for something beyond the horizon, when you could have it NOW!

Winder, pretty sure I know the answer to this but I'll ask anyway.

With the 2.0 expansion, if someone has to re-install WOFF will the 2.0 expansion already have all of the 1.26 updates rolled up into it so it'll just be install WOFF and then install the V2.0 expansion? Or will it be install WOFF. Install 1.26 update, then install WOFF V2.0 expansion?

Looking forward to your work sir.

A good question:

WOFF Expansion to V2.0 includes the V1.26 updates so new users or folks re-installing simply install WOFF 1.0 (from DVD or download) and then the WOFF Expansion to V2.0

2 steps.

What phase are we in now then?

And what does each phase represent? An add-on, or a new stand-alone iteration, e.g. from OFF to WOFF?

That wouldn't worry me though; it would excite me.

And I assume it goes without saying that The Fokker Scourge and skin pack releases would also need to be installed?
