French were like the Germans and there were no shared claims historically.
The British did. The Americans followed the French style.
In WOFF there are no shared claims.

Nord, France.
The French did share claims, some balloon aces (French spécialité of 1918) have almost all their victories shared.
But indeed it could be nice (although probably difficult to program) to have some variations between different nations homologation systems.

Huh. In my reading there were no shared claims for the French.

I'll add a bit more then.

did they have to have others from the flight see the HA go in?
did it have to be an officer that confirmed
etc..

To have a victory confirmed, it needed 3 independant witness (outside the escadrille), time, place and type of aircaft shot down. Aircraft shot down behind german lines had very little chances to be counted as "confirmed".

According to Shores, Franks, and Guest, "Above the Trenches", French claims were only accepted with independent verification from the ground or wreckage.

And just to complete this subject, Duke was in fact quite right, as some french squadrons did not allowed shared victories, it was the case in GC 12 'Les Cigognes' (even if a few were still recorded as that). This rule will cause a dispute between André Chainat and Georges Guynemer in February 1917, when both claimed a Gotha in Lorraine. Guynemer will finally get the homologation, and Chainat will be fired from the squadron (althought it seemed that it was Chainat who did the most damage to the german plane).

Their method of claiming might be a reason that the French didn't go over the lines much.

Maybe, it also explains why some of them have more "probable" than confirmed victories (with both added, Fonck and Madon reached the 100s).
However it is sure the reason why some french squadrons concentrated on balloon busting missions in 1918, as they were more easy to find than german planes, and it was the guarantee of a confirmed victory.
