The French did share claims, some balloon aces (French spécialité of 1918) have almost all their victories shared. But indeed it could be nice (although probably difficult to program) to have some variations between different nations homologation systems.

did they have to have others from the flight see the HA go in? To have a victory confirmed, it needed 3 independant witness (outside the escadrille), time, place and type of aircaft shot down. Aircraft shot down behind german lines had very little chances to be counted as "confirmed".

Their method of claiming might be a reason that the French didn't go over the lines much.
