Now if they can only release Star Wars Rebellion!!!!
I always enjoyed Rebellion. Loved to play as the Empire but I wouldn't allow myself to use certain items like the tie advanced/defender. Tried to stay more inline with movies.
I always blew up at least one planet with the death star.
The ones I played most were SW: Galactic Battlegrounds (the Age of Empires lookalike) with the Clone Wars addon and SW: Empire at War with the smuggler addon, I forget its name. You got to build a Death Star and even a Super Star Destroyer.

I purchased and downloaded SW X-Wing SE. It comes with the following all for 10 bucks!
1. original X-Wing from 1993 2. complete edition from 1998 3. The official strategy guide for the complete X-Wing edition!
Holy Smokes this is awesome!
I just tried the beginning training mission (bringing back so many memories). My xbox controller buttons and left thumb stick is recognized which controls pitch and yaw, but I cannot get the roll to work or the right Thumb stick.
Heck yeah I have all those but will buy and play them just because.

Roll is a button combo, at least it used to be. There is a button (should be joy2) that selec5s whatever is in the reticle. Hold that button then "yaw". You should roll.

This is just bringing back so many memories for me.
I just finished playing through some training missions and started the 1st Tour. I forgot how truly amazing this game/sim is even for it's day. The mission briefings, the voice overs, the music, the whole bit just sets the mood and the immersion factor goes way up. Having to manipulate shields, engine power, and laser power in the heat of battle is awesome. The intensity of it all makes you for get about the resolution and the pixels. Yes the game is dated, BUT it just proves with excellent game play it's timeless. If a company today would just reproduce this sim with today's technology and PC systems it would be jaw dropping.

I did really enjoy this title but I had to avoid/mod out some things to make it feel more StarWarsy. Example: In space battles I modded out the missile boats. They could just decimate the whole area no matter what the opposition.
I also found the ground combat to be lacking. But overall, it was a great game. The visual of my 3 star destroyers jumping into a system before a space battle was just AWESOME.

The space part does make the game, but I like parking a bunch of Y-wings in orbit so you get the strafing runs on the ground. It isn't a clickfest either, so you can set the ships in motion and hit the cinematic view and enjoy.
I was hoping to play Tie Fighter as a a mod for X-Wing Alliance - there was a mod for it called Tie Fighter Total Conversion, and the v2 was supposed to fix compatibility problems that prevented me from playing it properly. It seems to had died though, so I might go the GOG release and play the original after all.
I wish we could have a new game on par with these older games in terms of gameplay but with current gen engines similar to E:D or Star Citizen... Even better, give a game called Han Solo's Kessel Run :P
