I've been thinking about Snowpiercer, I'll give it a shot.

Was Snowpiercer an independent film? I don't think it ever had a US theatrical release.

Yeah, Snowpiercer had a theatrical release. It mostly played second run and bargain theatres, though.

If you get to watch The Zero Theorem, you will see Tilda Swinton plays the same character as in Snowpiercer but with a different name and in a different context.

I watched Zero Theorem last night and yes it was a similar character. I didn't recognise Christoph Waltz straight away!

What a weird film, but then I saw who the director was. Enjoyable film though.

I wonder if Thomas Kretschmann is angry that Christoph Waltz replaced him as the unofficial German token in Hollywood?

Steven Spielberg's 1941.

I really enjoy this film and re-visit it every few years. I still laugh nearly all the way through. So many good comedy performers like Slim Pickens,Dan Aykroyd,John Candy to name a few and Nancy Allen looking so fine. The whole episode about the placement of the anti-aircraft gun at the house is just great. One of Spielberg's worst movies some would say,but miles better than most others in my opinion.

Jeez, I think I last saw "1941" in its entirely when I was in high school. I do remember the scene with Toshiro Mifune and the compass though. biggrin

Under the Skin, a weird, arty, and intersting scifi movie,. Scarlett Johanson is naked in it, which is obviously a good thing. But her performance was also really good.

Boardwalk Empire series finale, which I thought was done very well.

First episode of the latest American Horror Story , but it was overdone garbage so I won't be checking out any other episodes. I liked season one, bailed on season two midway, and skipped season three. It's just too campy and badly written.

I watched a low budget supernatural movie from 1990 "starring" Joe Estevez titled "Soultaker". I watched the MST3K version of course.

I couldn't get through 'Under the Skin' despite a naked Scarlett Johanson. I had picked it for 'film night' that me and my brother have every week but after 15-20 minutes we looked at each other and concluded we could go no further.

Panzer,I think that the only way to watch some of those 'B' movies is with the MST3K version.

The Black Cauldron, for my daughters. One of the last cartoons Disney made in their post-Walt doldrums, I'd forgotten how lame it was. At least Oliver and Company had the catchy pop music, this one had an Elmer Bernstein score that was ok but otherwise unimpressive.

Saw The Judge on Sat night, Robert Downey Jr, Robert Duval, Vera Farmiga. It was good, sad in some spots, plenty funny in others. Couldn't find anything in Red Box so GF picked this one. Will see FURY with my boys this weekend.

Probably not since Christoph is Austrian.

Last movie I saw: "Fury" yesterday and "St Vincent" on Friday. Should have been a double feature, they were pretty much the same movie, haha jk.

like cousins, really. EDIT Waltz' dad is German.

I just noticed that Kretchmann had a cameo in Captain America 2 and will be in Avengers 2 as Von Strucker.

Not a cameo, really, he was in the post-credits sequence setting up the next film. The twins were in it as well, and they figure prominently (they're in the trailer for A2 and Kretschmann isn't).

What's more notable is that Waltz wasn't in Valkyrie! I mean, how can he NOT have been?!?

As for token actors, how about Hiroyuki Sanada? If you've got a film or TV show with a Japanese character, he's there! He's EVERYWHERE. Just look at this list:

Minions (filming)
Sumo Villain (voice)

2015 Mr. Holmes (post-production)
Tamiki Umezaki

2014 Extant (TV Series)
Hideki Yasumoto

2014 Helix (TV Series)
Dr. Hiroshi Hatake

2013 47 Ronin
ishi

2013 The Railway Man
Takeshi Nagase

2013 The Wolverine
Shingen

2012 CR: The Last Samurai (Video Game)
Ujio

2011-2012 Revenge (TV Series)
Satoshi Takeda

2010 Lost (TV Series)
Dogen

And that's only the last 5 years, his credits go back to 1968!!
