We all know that there are many different types of PC gamers when it comes to things like the genres of games they play and whether they mostly do single player or multiplayer, etc., etc. but one type that I've never understood are those gamers who buy a crapload of games and they either play it for a couple of hours and then move on to something else or they never play it at all.

What gives here? Why would someone buy so many games but yet spend so little time or no time at all with them?

I'll sometimes pick up titles on Steam Sales that seem interesting at the time, but I but never get to them, or they just don't grab my attention for long.

I don't 'bulk buy' now but I have done in the past. I have loads of games that I have hardly touched.

I either didn't research the game before purchase and hated it,or there was a Steam sale or a bundle deal or someone recommended it and I didn't like it.

What a waste and if I could gift my unused Steam collection I would.

I can't remember the last game I ever completed either,it may have been Star Trek Elite Force 2 (2003). I just don't have great staying power any more.

All these things for me. And if it's during a sale, to give a game/ genre/ publisher/ developer a whirl, see if I might be interested in what they have to offer down the line. For example, I picked up Borderlands before BL2 came out on sale to see if I would be interested. I've enjoyed both of them immensely.

Bargain hunting!
There are a good number of games I'm interested in, but not enough to pay much for. If I see something for $5 that I've had my eye on, I'll often pick it up.
The conflict: I'm a very moody player.
Sometimes all I want for a month or two are WWII games. Then scifi. Then stealth. Then RTS. Then racing. Then just plain cinematic fun.
I get to them eventually.
It's like buying in bulk for long term savings, but you don't get immediate benefits.

See, I can at least understand this approach. It may be a few weeks or months before you get around to playing a game but eventually you play it! I know several people who often spend full price for games and then never even touch them and just forget about them or they may put 2-3 hours into a game and then be distracted and play something else. It's like gaming with ADHD. biggrin

Short answer: greed.

Long answer: I suspect what those gamers are really buying is the perceived promise of those games (in terms of the feeling of power and enjoyment) in the same sense that when you buy the latest greatest cologne, what you're actually buying is the promise of sexual attractiveness to the opposite sex. They're chasing a feeling rather than a game, and they want more of that feeling. Thus greed becomes need and they become a vendor's wet dream: a consummate consumer.

Some game genres have a lot more longevity then others I find milsims tend to have a great deal of longevity much more then say a first person Shooter.
I have been playing Steel beasts for over ten years there has been for few upgrades but the beauty of a game like SB it never gets old every mission is a challenge. then you have the map and mission editor I have only been playing DCS for two years but I think it will be a long term sim for me. As for people who buy games They never play just for the sake of it. I say this get a life,
Computer games sims are a great form of entertainment but nothing beat getting out there and living

And for the life of me, I don't get why anyone would get a sim just to team kill.

If it's red, maybe you want a doctor to take a look at it.

I'm guilty of this. I have plenty of games that I only played a few times, then left to collect dust. It happens because I purchase a game thinking I'll like it, then I'll realize quickly that I don't and then that's it, i don't play it anymore. I guess my biggest problem is that I get drawn in by hype. Recent examples - Watchdogs, Rome 2, Batman, Shadow of Mordor. I bought into the hype, then realized I didn't like these games at all.
