We all have one. I know I do. Today it looks like crap, but holy ghost- we played the living hell out of it. We are talking CGA era games- for sake of argumentation let's keep in on the PC, no C64 or other machines. Which one was your favourite? Between mines in my first 13 MHz XT/PS2 I know there were: - F19 Stealth figther - Prince of Persia - Wolfpack

How are you defining "horrible" here? Do you mean horrible graphics? Well CGA was hardly eye candy. Yep, that's what I meant.

Battlehawks 1942. Pretty sure the VALs and Kates were pink in CGA.
I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

Test Drive, the one game I remember playing on my Tandy 1000SX (CGA/dual 5-1/4s/no HD or math co-processor)... ++++++++++ I often wonder about code reuse in these games. For example, I've noticed (besides having similar sounds) that the newer Fleet Defender uses the same technique as F-19/F-117 when reaching the edge of the map. Your forward motion suddenly stops, staying suspended in mid-air. Full power but you can't move forward.

LOL, Haggart! This weekend my wife and I are starting a half-bath re-model, later I'll show some before-and-after pics and you'll see why I'm mentioning it under your Pepto-Bismol post. ++++++++++ I'm still mesmerized by the original DOOM, the beginning of the first level when you walk into the control room. Looking closely at screens and panels it's just single colored pixels (for 320x200) but the illusion is that lots of information is being displayed. Still impressive, but maybe I watch too much original Star Trek and Space: 1999. ++++++++++ I'm still working on F-19 (when I'm not studying for school entrance exams) and I'm dreaming up another new retro game (besides SubWar 2050...damn I love this game!). It'll be similar to Need For Speed SE (640x400 [vs. 480]) only my game will feature an '88 Fiero GT with available V8 upgrade. Other cars will be vintage 1980s (cool to see the CRX in NFS SE [AI only], even if it is purple). It'll also have an Alpine tape deck upgrade with auto-reverse and Dolby NR and a way to create your own MP3 mix tapes in-game. And of course it'll be freeware like F-19, I don't want to get in all kinds of licensing troubles. If I get far enough for attempting commercial games I'll stick with sub/space combat imaginary themes. Which reminds me I forgot about Stunt Driver, another CGA game I loved to play (or was that EGA?)...

Not just CGA, but threads here never last long before someone derails it. This is only a slight derail though Have to sneak in North & South on the Amiga. Great multiplayer fun with buddies Chuck Yeager's Air Combat The original Microprose B-17 game
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

I tolerated the graphics in Janes FA-18 long past.their expiration date because the gameplay was so rocking. Ditto fallout new Vegas, which looked crap even on day one release.
there's now a whole new generation of indie games that seem strange proud of their crap graphics.

Yeah, I got the same impression. The gameplay and story were great but those character models and animations were painful to look at.

Test Drive and Gunship were definitely miserable in the graphics dept and the performance also blew!

M1 Tank Platoon (1989) on the Atari ST. I'm not sure I could describe the graphics as 'miserable' though as I had just upgraded from a Spectrum but the performance from the 8Mhz chip I do remember as quite 'jerky'. One of my most played games of all time I think. I couldn't wait for my wife to go to bed so I could whip out my tank
