Hey Folks,

i have recently upgraded my computer with an Intel I7. The overclocking though seems to be a bit different from what i am used to from my old Q9450 CPU. I have activated the Turbo mode in Bios, so he automaticly jumps up to 4,4 Ghz whe nthe necessary stress on the CPU requires it. But he also often goes down to 4,2 Ghz. I have checked the frequency with CPU-Z. I have manually set the min ratio to a multiplier of 44 as well as for the max Ration. That should result in a constant 4,4 Ghz..but it doesn't. I guess the reason are some strange energy saving Setting i have to deactivate in Bios to get a constant 4,4 Ghz?

Thanks in advance!

John

Hey John!

Got your pm but I figure I will respond here so others can chime in. I'm at work right now so I can't check my bios settings but I think I have turbo off. If I remember right, turbo isn't constant…it fluxuates based on CPU usage percentage so I'm pretty sure I set turbo off and just got my 4.4 through voltage…etc.

Even though you're not pushing the OC very far…it would be a good idea to check CPU temps under full load if you haven't already.

Sorry not much help yet…I will check mine when I get home.

Turn off turbo and all the Intel energy saving states in the BIOS. I've read that on some computers the Windows setting for power control like performance or energy saving in the control panel will cause this. You also have to set in the BIOS you want all four cores to overclock. I have my vcore at 1.3v.

Mines running at 4.2Ghz all the time.

Thanks guys. I got it to work. smile Setting all 4 cores to the same multiplier did the trick. I had the default option, i.e. all cores on auto, which caused the spiking.

@Force: I tried turbo off yesterday and the whole thing run on 800 MHz for a couple of seconds. Well that's at least what CPU-Z showed me, so i switched it back on.
Btw, my CPU cooler is a real monster. There is no need to check the temps! smile Bios temp of the CPU is 30° celsius. I let the core voltage on auto, so it can suck the power it needs, as that seems to change quite often.
