Have you gentlemen seen this? http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/97769-Opinions-on-Kerbal-Experience/page53 Escentially they planned to have some sort of XP system, a la RPG game built into career mode. So for instance, a Kerbonaut with more XP would mean your engine is more powerfull and stuff like that. All hell broke loose! Interesting to see how the KSP community seems to be getting more and more dissatisfied with the game. I wonder why that is. Might be that there are some people already playing this game for too long a time in alpha and they got their expectations too high? At least that sorta what's happening in my case... Started looking (real or imaginary) like it was going to be one game and is turning to be another. Good SQUAD listens to the crowd, though, I'll give them that.

I am having more fun with KSP now in the newest version than I was in the previous versions. Sure it got me and my youngest son hooked in but we quickly lost interest in it. However now he can sit for a couple of hours and work on spaceships and figure out the costs and weights of the items. It has really helped him in more than entertainment areas.

I dont like the sound of XP bonuses. If an engine has a certain power thats it, dosent matter whos at the controls.
I would like to see them add some stats for the Kerbals though such as number of missions flown, EVA's, Planetary landing/walks ect. And maybe a short eulogy for the ones that dont make it back in one piece.

The main argument, and I kind of agree, seems to be that *you* are in fact piloting, so *you* are the one that should get better and not the characters. If we were to have some sort of autopilot, then the kerbonaut would be flying and then yes, he could be more or less skilled at doing certain tasks. But to me, to have my engines crippled because of the guy on the seat doesn't make sense. I'm more than capable of screwing thing up my self, no need for the game to do that for me! In other words, the XP system should affect only things that I cannot control my self. So the problem in any case is not that they add XP and such, but the implementation of it and the areas that it affects as it currently stands. We'll see now that the game is "feature complete" and SQUAD starts polishing what they have, what they come up with. Also, mods, I'm sure there will be a mod to disable/tweak the hell out of that XP system.

Exactly, I'm still undecided if I'm ok with it or I just hate it. Anyways, I'm fine as long as they keep the thing open for modding...

I very much dislike the thought of it affecting rocket performance, but I wouldn't say no to things like slightly better science transmission or other "soft skills"

On the dev notes today: Mike (Mu): Few final flourishes for experience systems including the all new pilot and engineer skill sets. Higher level engineers will now be required to repair the parts which can be repaired including wheels, legs and packing parachutes!
Now that's the sort of thing I would like in the XP system. A reason to a) use kerbals at all and b) use different kerbals. I'm still doubtful though. :P

Enjoying career so far (although I rage-deleted the entire game and then had to dig a backup:) ), the XP system seems elegant and not too RPG. I still have no use for kerbals, thou, except for the fact that the tech tree is sort of the opposite to what it should be IMO, ie sending probes first and then astronauts as IRL.
I should definitely should try some of those tech tree mods. Not sure how nice they play with the progression you're supposed to do on your career with those contracts and all.
