Hi guys I was rooting around my spare room the other day and I came across my old ch pro throttle and I've been thinking since is there anything I could make to use it as a kind of panel or console? Has anyone else done anything like this?

If is USB version you can take the controller board and use for make a button box panel, etc...

This controller handle 3 axis, 1 POV HAT (8 way) and ~20 buttons.

I'm thinking along the lines of that because it is the usb version. The only trouble is my soldering skills are severely lacking.

Well, is not possible do a button box without solder, buttons and switch's pins will need. smile

But this is easy, watch some tutorial in Youtube and practice with worthless parts.

When disassemble your PRO throttle take note of wires colours and what goes into each button - you will notice that some wires are common (shared) to some buttons (the key matrix).

Soldering isn't hard with a little bit of practice. Like Sokol said just practice on wires and disposable stuff, maybe try soldering wires to some toggle switches first. Also to add to Sokols post about paying attention to what wires go where to the existing buttons also take lots of pictures. It'll help when memory fails you and you can also post the pics here to ask questions. There are a lot of helpful members here that really know their stuff and have helped me out many a time.

I've got a bad feeling about this.....

You can use any sort of button or switch, really, but you'll probably want one that's off in the neutral state (both contacts open). All you're really doing is pulling the signal lines down to common ground.

For the three analog axes, you can use anything that's an analog voltage divider. Linear pots go without saying, but Hall sensors should work in theory.

That said, is there any particular reason you want to gut a Pro Throttle for that sort of project? I figure you could just flash a Teensy board with the right firmware for that, but the only thing is that you wouldn't have Control Manager integration doing that.

Also, what are you gonna do with the Pro Throttle housing and switches once you've gutted its brains out?

Well its my spare unit that's just lying around so I'm not bothered about keeping in the insides too much as my other unit is perfect and is a lot newer. I'd also probably keep the other bits as spares.
