This game seriously puts you on edge. It's not a nice feeling knowing you are being hunted!

Uh-Oh!

with a serpentine, fluid and frighteningly realistic motion, the Alien exits the ceiling vent and drops to the floor:

And the hunt begins..

not long after I get a much closer look eek2 :

One thing I am learning is that you have to keep moving. Hole up in a locker for too long and it WILL find you.

I find the opposite, I just sit in lockers until it leaves, explore for 10 seconds, then find another locker wink

It's strange... I love the game, but I dread playing it!

Could not have said it better, except I have actually been chicken-#%&*$# enough to keep finding excuses to play other games! biggrin

I just wish they would implement T-IR. That would help a lot.

Ah Medical. What a nightmare but how brilliant. Oozing with atmosphere.

The first time I saw this I let out a squawk of terror, panicked, turned round and hid in a small locker.

It found me.

On hard I spent a whole evening/night on this one chapter. It left me a gibbering, quivering wreck. But so utterly compelling.
Can't say I was too sad about Kuhlman's fate after putting Ripley through THAT!!
As for the debate as to whether it is better to to hole up in a locker or keep moving - I have done both and been killed doing both. I think the Alien's AI is so random that you really can't predict what it is going to do. You just have to take a chance. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't. And that is the real terror - you are NEVER safe. It is quite simply hunting you. The b&st*rd even ambushed me in an air duct!

Using the motion tracker is essential, unless it is close, as the Alien seems to be able to "hear" the beep!

"You have my sympathies"!!

You guys know you can't jus hide in lockers right ? you have to pull back and hold your breath, and if you hold it for too long and exhale it will hear you.

What pissed me off was the prologue of the game, you awake in your panties, and THERE ISNT a single reflective surface in the whole map (trust me i searched lol) i also wandered in my panties to see if you would cause a reactions, but the im not so obviously a android, and the girl seemed pretty cool with that, only warning me to dress before the meeting...i wish i could had gona to the meeting in my undearwear :P

On a dark gloomy vessel about to dock with a large station not putting out any communication or lights, about to embark on a mission full of a sense of dread in the back of your mind, and Blade_RJ is trying desperately to admire his naked self in the mirror. That's priorities man biggrin

I don't know why but the game really isn't giving me the feeling of dread that things like Half Life 2 and FEAR did way back in the day. When the alien is around it's around a LOT, which reduces my fear of coming across the thing to a feeling of "oh come on, I need to hide in a locker for 10 minutes again until the damn stomping thing walks away for 30 seconds". The pacing and build up feels really off somehow, not that the game isn't enjoyable. Maybe it's just me, but I don't feel like I'm being hunted by a killer creature so much as being forced to sneak around a sleepless teleporting dinosaur.

When it comes to my locker it pops up saying hold right mouse button to hold breath, S to lean back. I think it's contextual, so just randomly hitting right mouse won't do anything unless the alien is in its "sniff the locker" animation

@Blade and Chucky

Well, the lower the FOV you select on the settings, the more you can see of your body when you look down. Maximum FOV to see your own body is 55. I hate to play a PC game with low FOV, but I play at 55 so I can have awareness of where I am walking or how much hidden I am regarding other objects.

I learned quick that the alien has been programmed to find you based on how long you've been somewhere. So, if you hide in a locker (Which is something I never do!) For 10 minutes it's gonna keep looking for you 'til it finds you. You have to keep moving to throw it off.

Anyone still playing this game? It is on sale now and I am thinking of getting it and wanted opinions on how it is holding up.

I just finished the campaign a couple of days ago. I have read that the campaign takes about 20 hours to play through. I bet I took twice that. This means I spent about 20 hours cowering in a virtual locker hahaha . Game of the year for me.

At least you finished it, I just gave up at the part where you get flamethrower. Could not handle the fact that locker hiding part is coming up again. biggrin

Trying to play. It's a difficult game, spend too much time wondering what that noise was or hiding in a wall locker.

Played some more today, that video is still processing.
