Been a long time between flights and always thought of ways of adding to the immersion of EAW.Have very limited modding "bwains" but excel at design and fabrication, well hitting bits Have been delving into the 3D printing technology and slowly but surely making headway in designing and getting printed replica parts for our favourite fighters. These are mainly joystick tops and instrument bezels along with other bits and pieces..If you would like a replica grip for flying or just something to put on your PC just keep an eye out here.. http://www.shapeways.com/shops/spit?s=0#more-products
So, the art of designing on paper, maiking patterns, moulds, pressings, casting, and machining, are now all endangered skills?
How long before you'll be able to print me a replica Spit MkVIII, with RR Merlin, ready to fly?
Not at all as I still do all those things in my work..3D printing is just another tool of the trade.Maybe not a full size Merlin but a scale model which turns over by hand..
OK, what about a 1/48 scale model then? I know this 3D printing is all the rage at the moment.
We had one of those 3D scanners / printers doing models of you, for £70 a go, a few weeks ago in our local supermarket. They were printing in cloured plasic.
What materials are you working with?
Supports EAW 1.29.exe, Drop in and Play Technology.
Through Shapeways you can chose the material but cost becomes a concern with metals and others. To keep costs at a minimum I am choosing ABS nylon plastic (White or black strong and flexible)List is here.. http://www.shapeways.com/materials?li=nav
