hi guys. game is a ww1 naval combat gem called "Steam and Iron" (The great war at sea + campaign expansion). I played a campaign scenario and captured it.
was originally looking to buy "Jutland" by SES truth be told, since i read the review by SimHQ here a few years ago and was impressed. but apparently that one has now gone fubar so i chose SAI instead. it turns out to be quite a fun game. realism check, decent dynamic campaign check, highly moddable check, all my soft spots!...

I decided to do another one with voice over to explain my actions (English isn't my native language so sorry if my talking sounds a bit off!..). it is a very lengthy battle where dreadnoughts from both sides meet... twice. http://youtu.be/yN_KxalN4F4

Hi Amaroq, the time period for the game is 1900-1920 so mostly the "dreadnought-era" before air power came along. I guess it can be called semi-realistic, as the research areas are confined to that era, i.e. no fancy stuff like fire control radar etc. But as player takes the role of fleet commander and builder, he designs the ships himself, and decides what available tech is researched and equipped to the fleet. RULE THE WAVES' Rule the Waves places you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' during the early years of the 20th Century. The game mechanics are based upon our successful Steam and Iron (SAI) system for combat but politics, economic and foreign policy decisions will be necessary as the Player guides their navy's deployment, construction and operations during a period of great technological innovation and political tensions. Rule the Waves is modeled on the period of European global dominance but is not intended to precisely recreate history. Rather RTW gives the Player the tools to lead a navy during the era when 'steam and iron' dominated the high seas
At the point of game progression i was able to out build GB so had more numbers.
yet AI battlecruisers were very aggressive. Upon contact they went full on kamikaze on my scouting force BCs. I messed up battle entry of my main force resulting Graf Spee from scouting force heavily damaged.
Still once every ship is committed the enemy soon gets out shot and started fleeing. Chased down individual damaged/scattered enemy ships for a while and decided to go after enemy main force. It then became a running battle trying to sandwich the enemy between my scouting force and main force.
The weather is interesting, it is day and not raining, but at first a fresh breeze limits ship speeds to 26kts which later changed to strong breeze further limiting speed to 22kts. So while there is sun and daylight, ship movement is relatively restricted and so I never made offensive flotilla attacks after the sandwich is formed - the DDs would likely just become cannon fodder..
Battle started at 10:22 and ended at 20:02, just after the sun has set. Final result is enemy lost 6BB, 6BC, 7CL and 12DD. We lost 8DD and Graf Spee very close to sinking. It could be better, but still not bad for a day's fight there.
