It's loaded with atmosphere. However, I'll disagree on the "awesome graphics" aspect. They're downright bad with awful non-existent AA and horrible texture LoD.

The in-game anisotropic filtering option is either very low quality, or doesn't work at all. There is no anti-aliasing available in the game. Well, you can select from FXAA, SMAA T2x, and SMAA T1x but all of those are post-processing and completely ineffectual in my opinion.

Texture resolution on the whole is very disappointing. They have created all these awesome "old tech" displays everywhere and there are reports strewn about the ship, but it's all very low resolution and you can't read most of them. Even the in-game text prompts/subtitles seem like they were drawn for 720p and scaled up.

I must admit that I never noticed any of those things.I don't have a top of the range graphics card so maybe my expectations are slightly less, but compared to a lot of newer games it certainly does the trick, for me at least, and the background sounds while ramping up the tension and being able to quicken the old heartbeat works really well.

Compared to the last Aliens game this one surpasses it in every conceivable way, IMO, thoroughly enjoying this.

I agree on the immersion. It took a few minutes but once I started just taking my time and looking around, hearing the whitenoise of being in a spacecraft and hearing different sounds it does suck you into that movie environment. I'm playing on the PS4 and in general I find the graphics very good especially the lighting and shadow. There are some AA issues I've seen but it doesn't distract me. There are some odd fps issues in the cutscenes I've noticed, and the cutscenes are non-engine related which I find funny.

The character models are decent but I noticed poor facial-lip synching. Games have come a long way and I know this mostly takes place in the dark, but that's a bit distracting to me. They could have done a better job with that. I also so an animation where someone pulled out a notepad device apparently but the object was missing. He was just typing something into his hand.

These are minor for me. Like I said the lighting, shadows and fire look gorgeous. I remember unlocking some door from a terminal across the room and when the door open, this pretty blue light flooded out. It was really eerie. Then when I approached, "something" knocked a work light hanging in the room throwing light and shadows all over the place. frown

Any Alien game or AvP game I've played has always scared me. It's just the things look plain freaky, and the universe itself is built to scare you. The motion sensor always gets me.

All the Aliens games I have played have scared me,however last night I loaded up Aliens: Colonial Marines for the first time (don't ask why it's in my library) and I thought it's actually not too bad.

Then I encountered the first alien and thought wtf? Not scary at all.Deleted.

This just about summed it up.Probably funnier if you've watched 'Spaceballs'.

Wow, I own an Oculus DK2 (received last week) and I just tried Alien Isolation yesterday night - I've got no words to describe it! The environment and the atmosphere are so well done that I immediately immersed. It felt like being there. I spent a long time just looking at all the details in the initial spaceship.
But boy, I haven't seen an alien yet, but as soon as things started getting creepier, being immersed in VR just made it way more oppressive - when I finally get to the really scary part, I think even the neighbours might hear me scream (scare tricks work awfully well in VR).
I still have Elite D and DCS to relax when I'm too traumitised anyway (the Oculus Rift will be worth it for simulations, playing DCS in DK2 is heaven too!)

Strange thing is that after I encountered xenomorph in game it is not that scary at all, probably because you finally know who is after you. And sometimes it helps you deal with human NPC, throw a flare towards other humans and they will be dealt with. biggrin Also I found out that without motion sensor , it is easier for me to avoid getting killed by xenomorph, and does not make you panic "Crap a xenomorph nearby, must hack the door quickly!!".

Those bloody synthetics, the "working Joe's" are kinda more scary than the alien, trying to stay out of there way is tricky and honestly the first time I came across what I thought was a dead one made me actually jump (never happened to me in a game before).
The way the music assaults your senses especially with earphones on is amazingly surreal and I can only imagine what it would be like with the Occulus Rift, I would really sXXXt my pants, lol.

Hi Detcord,
What part of the game are those spacesuit screenies from? They remind me of Prometheus. I have the Nostromo edition, is that the isolation run thru or one of the DLC's?
Awesome screens man, thanks.

I have to say that the more screen-shots I see the more I like this game. I thought you were just confined to the ship.

I can see that I may have to grab my man-pants and purchase this when it goes on sale.
