Taking off from Gumrak airfield with my Schwarm, a Rotte of 109s providing escort.

After forming up and starting to climb (not that easy with 1x500kg and 2x250kg bombs) I carefully monitor RPM, engine power and temperatures. And I keep in mind that I have to switch the supercharger into 2nd gear as I climb higher. Nothing more embarrassing than having to abort a mission because you fried your engine.

My first navigation fix: the 'tennis racket' train yards around the Lazur factory and the Mamaev Kurgan hill. We fly across the Don, heading 120°.

I continue on my course and soon should reach my 2nd navigation fix: the village of Stavromets. I open the Stuka's floor window and yes, there it is!

We turn right to course 180° and cross the Don a second time.

Soon we reach our target area and I start scanning for our mission targets: Russian artillery.

I spot a string of gun positions, order my flight to attack then dive onto the enemy!

I start my dive at ~ 3.000m, drop the 500kg bomb at 1.000m, then the two 250kg bombs while pulling up. All three impact among the Russian artillery sites!

Meanwhile our Jäger busy themselves with a flight of Russian fighters.

Horrido!

After taking care of the Red artillery we continue to hunt for targets of opportunity.

There! A convoy of trucks on the road!

We circle around and shoot the trucks to pieces.

With the light fading away we climb back and set course for Stalingrad again.

Near Chapurniki airfield we run into some serious Flak fire but luckily suffer no damage.

A little while later 2 Russian fighters pass us at several km distance but do not engage.

And just when we are about to land another pair of Russian fighters is spotted, but is driven away by our escort and Flak fire from Gumrak.

Home, sweet home.

How did you learn to fly the thing?
I smoked the engine more than I like to admit. And I love to admit it... :P

I use (roughly) these settings:

Take-off: 1.4 ATA, 2500-2600 RPM
Climb: 1.2 ATA, 2200 RPM
Cruise: 1.0-1.1 ATA, 2000-2100 RPM
Combat: 1.2-1.25 ATA, 2200-2400 RPM

Radiators/cooling flaps as required.

Vienna, 2nd rock left.
Visually very impressive, and gameplay seems to match.

Cool shots, nice to see a fellow Stuka-fan! I never got a night mission, just one morning mission and the rest have been day flights. Those search lights are really nasty, once they find you the clock starts ticking.

I long for the day when we can get the mission editor so you can setup a massive 12 Stuka flight and work an area.

Have you come up with any good sequence to get the AI to attack with accuracy? For me they just seem to dive with me and then release when I release (which means I hit, they miss). I've looked over the commands and the LAlt+8 "Patrol for ground targets" seem to work for strafing after a dive bombing attack. Perhaps a LCtrl+6 "Formation column" and then bomb the last target in a row might get the AI to drop behind you. I have to experiment a little tonight.

The Ju-87 is awesome! yep

Handles very well, nice bombload with (if done right) pinpoint accuracy and those 2x20mm guns pack a punch! I've already killed quite a few careless soviet fighters with the Stuka.

Yeah, my flight seems to drop one bomb when I release mine. And after that I can't get them to attack. At least not with any kind of consistency. I have tried ALT-2 "attack nearest ground target" but no dice. Last time I tried ALT-8 I suddenly was all alone after they crashed into the Rodina. duh

I'll try "do as I do" next. If I could get 4 Stukas in column formation to drop all their bombs in one diving attack it would be pretty awesome.

I'll report back...
