I had look at this video and found a kind of a 'flaw' in the X55:

Saitek X-55 Rhino H.O.T.A.S. Review - Elite Dangerous Test

The guy talks about it at 3:30.

My Saitek ST290 Pro is designed the same way (with a cup at the bottom of the stick) and it makes moving from the centered position to slightly off center a bit awkward. If I need to make slight adjustments off-center then this resistance becomes even more pronounced as the stick will require more force to get it off-center and thereby snapping off-center rather than moving smoothly to the desired position. This is the reason why I want a new stick. I've tried applying machine oil and it slightly helps for a few hours but after that it's the same problem.

What I wanted to ask is that does the X55 exhibit the same kind of behavior? If so has anyone found a solution?

That's the most common complaint about the X55. I would be careful about using a machine oil. It could have a bad effect on the plastic cup and it will attract dust and grit, which certainly won't help. I used a dry teflon spray. That and some use, eventually seemed to erase the problem.

Thanks. I don't think I'll find dry Teflon spray over here in Lahore. I'm not sure whether we're allowed to import such things either.

Could you provide a picture or an illustration showing where you sprayed the lubricant?

After you remove the spring, check the movement of the collar around the shaft ( it slides up as you move the shaft around around and the spring pushes it back down when you center it.) See if it moves freely. That was my source of sticking. I did a little checking and some people have had luck in using a very light amount of Vaseline (White Petroleum jelly should be available everywhere)) around the shaft where the collar slides. I would try to remove as much as possible, the oil you used first, so it doesn't contaminate the Vaseline. I may actually try that myself.

thanks. Vaseline I do have. So did the Teflon wear out or is it still working?

The Teflon does wear out after a while. It's in a spray can and hard to control. I usually spray it on the end of my finger and then spread it around, but it's still messy.

I wondered out loud about a possible solution in a previous topic on the subject, but I haven't been interested enough to try it yet. Instead of using one spring, use two springs. One very light, short spring combined with a stronger spring. The joysticks initial movement should have less resistance compressing the light short spring. When the light short spring is almost fully compressed the heavier spring would come into play. Like I said I haven't tried it, and know full well that what appears to be a good idea, often fails when tried. smile

I would just go with Vaseline. Tried it on my ST290 Pro and it works (at least for a day).

I found something else. According to this guy, three of the x55 switches failed after 250 hours of use, one of them being the main trigger:
