In case someone hasn't yet resolved this problem, here is the solution.

PROBLEM: If you install "gte2_core_update_eng_v581.exe" updater (pointing your game folder along the way), installer states "SUCCESS".



But when you want to apply "mtc80_sabow_patch_aug12_eng_beta3.gt2extension" patch, updater can't handle *.gt2extension files. It seems that updater, didn't really change anything and can't overwrite game files (being an admin does not help either).

SOLUTION:
1) Uninstall updater if installed
2) Install it again in temporary directory. We do this only to see file structure and find out which files need to be changed



3) Open side by side view, browse temp directory, find and rename all corresponding files in game file structure




4) Uninstall updater (don't delete temp folder, we don't want to leave mess in Control Panel)



5) Install Updater in Game folder again

Now success really is success, *.gt2extension can be handled.

I'll just run through the way it should be done.I've had problems in the past,mainly through my own misunderstanding of the patching process but also not watching the install paths.

Run 'gte2_core_update_eng_v581' and make sure you point it to the install folder.Once completed,the game updater should open up.

Click 'install' and point it to the patch file 'mtc80_sabow_patch_aug12_eng_beta3.gt2extension'. When you continue you will get a graphic of a clock and a count up to 100% after which the game is patched. Click 'save and play',the updater then closes and you can play the game.

I have had a problem in the past where after patching,the game would crash.I have had to then re-install the game from scratch and start the patching again.

If this doesn't work and the advice given by BendingBot doesn't work then I suggest you re-download the files again to make sure there isn't a problem there.Other than that I really don't know.

The size of the patch file should be 167 MB (175,452,604 bytes)
