I'm currently using a Saitek ST290 Pro but it's showing its age and I want more control over the throttle especially when hooking up to a tanker (I tried in Falcon 4 BMS) also I'm looking for a HOTAS flight control system. The only problem is my budget and availability (otherwise I would have bought a thrustmaster product and CH Products rudder pedals). Now, there is a local vendor here in Lahore who's still selling the Logitech G940 for PKR 35,000. After finding out that it included a stick, throttle and rudder pedals I thought it was too good to be true but my enthusiasm was short-lived once I started reading the horror stories related to this product. That's the reason why I registered here. Now I have the following options: 1. Buy the G940 and perform the fixes to the throttle and rudder pedals at the outset (if these are permanent fixes). 2. Stay away from it and buy a joystick comparable to my ST290 pro and maybe later I can order CH Products rudder pedals separately. 3. Stick with my old stick. Which option should I choose?

Stay away from the Logitech stick. Save your money for a Saitek X-55

I have had three G940 and I would probably buy something else and separate rudder pedals if the current one breaks as well. It's much better than my cougar though, that thing went up on the attic after just a few months. X-52 was quite good as well but that twist rudder is horrid. I tried the X-55 and it was nice, probably my choice together with Saitek pedals. -C-

Unfortunately that is the only stick with FFB and I can't go back with normal none-FFB sticks. If finances is an issue, I would stick to something like X-52 or such.

Mod it up and it's the only thing that'll even compare to VKB's Black Mamba sticks! Heck, I'd even trade my own G940 for it. Only bought it for review purposes...well, that and figuring out why VKB has G940 references on one of the Black Mamba PCBs. It's alright for what it is, but I have better gear on hand. The X-52 is decent if you magnet-mod it and shim the gimbals. Otherwise, it's cheap and horrid. Same for the X-55, given everything I've heard about it. Generally speaking, I'd only opt for the G940 if you're really into Rise of Flight or DCS World. Otherwise, you have much better options from TM and CH, if you can afford them.

Thanks everyone. I'll stay clear of the g940. First I'll get the CH products pedals. After that a new stick and throttle once I save enough money. My two cents on the pedals: I've used CH Pedals, Saitek Combat rudders, and am now using MFG Crosswind pedals. From this experience, I'll tell you the best mix of cost to performance is the Saitek set, as the CH pedals are too close together to be comfortable to use. While the combat rudders are $200 (USD), their little brother, the pro pedals are going for $123 on Amazon right now though, so that might be the best option. That said, if you're looking mostly at modern Jet sims, the rudder pedals might not be the best place to spend your money. I pretty much only use my pedals for taxiing in BMS. On the other hand, if Helo sims or WWII sims are more your deal, then Rudder pedals are a must for anyone who wants to step up their game.

The G940 needs extensive modding. The stick itself is as fine a FFB stick as the MS FFB2 when modded, however. But I don't think it is worth $350 unless it is in new condition.

I am currently playing DCS. I've also bought the FC3, Huey and A-10C Warthog DLCs (they were on sale). Yes I need a good throttle and stick for Jet fighters but I'll also be flying Helos. Currently Falcon 4.0 BMS is uninstalled but I might reinstall it and practice mid-air refueling before starting any campaign. I love this sim (started with Falcon 3 or was it 3.2 I think) but from contemporary standards it could use more eye candy (but then again it would require a commercial software house with funding to do that). I looked at the Saitek X-55 as advised in this thread and instantly fell in love with it (due to its price). I really don't care for force feedback. Please don't tell me that the X-55 is another G940.

I'm under the impression that pedals are more accurate then the twist function on a stick. Let me know. Is the difference like day and night or just subtle?

So should I buy the X-55 along with CH pro Pedals? I'll be using them on Falcon 4 BMS and DCS

If you can get the CH pedals, why not a Fighterstick and a Pro Throttle to go with it?
I mean, you'd be getting Control Manager integration and more reliability. Thanks for replying. I just searched the entire bundle on amazon. Price-wise it's a good deal. 1. Are these compatible with Windows 8.1? 2. Isn't the range of motion of the throttle too small? I'm just asking because after looking at the pic on amazon it seems to have little room for movement between idle and max. (I would like to have a good, precise throttle).

I don't foresee any OS compatibility problems, though I should note that I still used Windows 7 when I still had my CH gear. I just don't like Win8(.1), though Win9 might be the ticket. However, I do have to point out that the throttle sliding range is indeed kinda small compared to most throttles on the market and there's next to no resistance, to the point where if you tilt the throttle, it'll actually slide away from gravity alone. It's possible to do something about the second part by adding a bit of hook-side Velcro to one end of the platform that the throttle handle slides on, though. And while the throttle range is pretty small relative to most HOTAS throttles, indeed partially due to the use of a sliding motion instead of an arcing one, it's still larger than the typical tiny thumb throttle you get on cheap sticks.

I always hear complaints about the G940, but I can honestly say it was money well spent. I have heard so many complaints about this package, some of which are valid, but some of which are just really nonsense. For your money you get a bundle with all of the necessary controls which includes a fantastic stick, and for those of us who prefer Force Feedback, the ONLY stick worth having since the MSFFB2!! I fly Helo sims almost exclusively which means proper trim makes a huge difference I admit, but even on A-10C, it is a great stick. The so-called hysteresis bug is not as noticeable as the forums make out, but I do recommend that you open up the throttle, sort out the taut wire problem, re-grease throttle stick and rudders, and then use this as a base platform for learning to mod your hardware and even code your own software. The Logitech gaming software comes with a complete SDK and examples, which means you can delve into the export feature of your sim and mess with flashing lights to your hearts content. You can even take FFB out of the game if you wish and remove the control surface feedback to concentrate on a fantastic trim and mine is into it's third year without breaking. In the future, I know that I may pass on fixing the throttle and/or rudder pedals if they break and go for something upmarket with some bespoke modifications, but I honestly can't face using another stick, and pick them up whenever they are going cheap on ebay. In fact, my last purchase was a complete barely used set for £150. Basically the price of a decent set of pedals...
