Hi all,

I need a new keyboard. I tried a Logitech G710+ but it was broken out of the box and there is a 12 page thread on their support site about broken keycaps. It has MX Cherry Browns. They also have a new one out in a couple of weeks with MX Cherry Blues. I have not been able to test a Corsair K70 with browns, I did not like the reds. I have also read that a lot of people are having trouble with the LEDs.

I would like back lighting, macros, some form of audio control.

What are some suggestions for something mechanical, durable, and won't break the bank?

That's a shame, I've just recently acquired a 710+ myself and I'm lovin' it. Mind you, I only use it for typing, but I've read the reviews and pulled the trigger anyway.

Thanks - I'm really on the fence. I have probably owned about $2000 of Logitech gear over the years and this was my first disappointment. I have trouble paying over a $100 for a keyboard anyway. I think I may wait until the G710 with the blue switches comes out so I can test the action. I worried about trying another G710+ because there is a glut of refurbs on eBay. The Logitech forums say that there was an internal rev fixing the problem but it is hard to know what I would get.

I've been using my G15 for several years now without complaint, but it's not mechanical. I don't care about that.

I use a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Mechanical, and no problems so far from me.

I use it as a straight KB though, so I dunno about any extras.

I have CM Storm Quickfire TK. I think its great as its mechanical (Cherry Brown), backlit, basic audio/media controls, and its compact with a combo numpad/arrow pad.

OP, you probably don't care for compactness if you want macros (the Quickfire is basic mechanical) but CM makes great keyboards so take a look.

There are a good deal of other manufacturers that are highly regarded for durability and quality. Type a search into Youtube on mechanical keyboard reviews and take a look at what comes up. Mechanical wise, CM is so far my first and only.

If you don't need any gaming stuff, then WASD Keyboards is the way to go in my opinion. Wonderful quality, tons of options for customization, great customer support.

I have 3 of them and couldn't be more happy, robust, functional, no nonsense gimmicks. (also no macro keys or anything like that).

I recently purchased a Corsair K95 and really am liking it. I don't use the macro functionality, but it looks like it works very well.

I took a risk, the G710+ was on sale at NewEgg for $99 today. It does have a good warranty so hopefully I will be OK. Rumor is that there was a keycap manufacturing change.

I bought my son a Razor Ultimate 2014 for Christmas. JUNK.

I get double key presses on the comma, the space bar, the letters x and g. The right shift key only works if you hold it half way in.

Razor has not responded to two RMA requests.

I have the same one. It's great. I would buy it again.
