So I played some solo last night and had a good run of it. I have a week to play enough games to take advantage of the anniversary reward, so I am trying to pace myself. What I realized is that I never play my heavy or assaults, so I am thinking about selling them and making room for more lights and mediums. The queues for heavies are always too long, and the assaults are too stompy. I like the breadth of weapons those chassis' permit, but it isn't worth it if I run an SHQ run and all y'all run heavies (and are better in them than me) or assaults (same). So that leaves me with the decision on a light Hero, and I think I am gonna drop the coin for Huginn and an Oxide. Tell me I'm not wasting my money, and that you'll play with me!

Az, I'm glad you are a good light pilot because I absolutely SUCK at them. I've tried running Jenners and Ravens and just get annihilated every time. I think I'll stick with my Blackjacks, Dragons, and Awesomes for now.
That being said, have you tried a Firestarter Ember? Those are the light mechs I fear the most on the battlefield.

Dude check out the Ember!
That is the only light hero worth anything in my opinion, I made lots of C-Bills with mine (4ML+4MG) and it still plays pretty nice now even in the land of Clan domination.
A fun fast machinegun chainsaw with MLs and jump jets, as long as you keep moving fast the clan lazors have a hard time hurting you due to the long fire time, meanwhile the MGs are great for crit killsteals.

Yeah, even I've got an Ember. LOL The ML/MG build beats out the other lights IMO. Might look at the Arrow and other Blackjacks. The Blackjacks are my favorite mediums and they can carry a good loadout.
Between the 2 you mentioned, I'd probably to the Huggin. The Oxide looks horribly limited in hardpoints.
If you did branch out to the firestarter, all you'd have to do is basic them out since you've already leveled up the jenner and raven.

I am one of the units light/medium pilots. I am pretty decent in heavies but in group drops I would rather let the tubers drop in their timberwolves.
I have to repeat what everyone else is saying. The Ember is where it is at. Fast, good hit boxes and good weapons. And it can jump. Any light without JJs right now is really asking to leg itself.
A wolf pack of embers is a nightmare. And we have enough ember pilots to form one.
Now I have seen some huggins out there but I don't fear ravens right now. If they are narcing they become a priority but thats it. Jenners and locust are Firestarter food.

Lights are so cheap you probably don't have to sell.

'Mech bays are a premium for me right now. I have 4 heavies and an assault collecting dust. Wait till this weekend to buy mechbays! Anniversary Weekend On September 17th 2013 we had our exciting launch event in San Francisco. So to mark this anniversary we're celebrating this weekend with Double XP, Double XP conversion, and Mechbays for 50% off. Also during this Anniversary weekend, when you win 1 match you will earn a Cupcake Cockpit item.
I'm going to buy a few myself, gone through most of the ones I bought last sale.

I ditched a bunch of IS mechs I don't use too. I kept heroes and champs of course, but otherwise mainly 1 of each. I'm even down to 4 Stalkers! Trimmed down to 33 mechs and 7 empty bays. Could probably drop to 1 Jager, but I like all 3 variants I've got set up.

I will echo the affirmation that the Ember is a great mech! As for the other Firestarters, the 9H is actually my favorite, with 4xML 2xSPL and 2xMG. Slightly more DPS, and alpha damage, but still a critmonster. I actually prefer it to the Ember, but no %30 bonus.

My advice would be to make it as fast as it can go, but YMMV.

Blackjack? AC20 and 3ML's. I think you can still have 4 tons of ammo.
