I'm new on this thread also, Happyflier. You brought back memories of Europe to me, where the best fresh coffee to be had early in the mornings was not at the hotel, but at the nearest pub. A hot coffee with a grilled, buttered baggette would start my day in a great way.

Gents,

Happyflier:

Your comment sounds just like an observation that JRT might make! biggrin BTW...Where is that bounder? Probably hung over from that special birthday bash, hog roast and NC limbo dancing finals. yep

A few bottles of Spitfire would soon take care of those Heineken One-Elevens. yep

I had no idea one could meet a Spitfire in that context.
Think that at a proper time today I will down a Heineken. cheers

My, its gone quiet.

Since a member in another thread in this section asks if Rowan's BoB, i.e.BoB One will run on Win 8.1, I thought that Roger might have tested that scenario?

Jens,

Nobody seems to know for sure. Masochists might consider buying a copy just for the hell of it. There's one on Ebay right now for £1.95 with free postage. Nothing ventured... mycomputer

Here we are, another year, another page turned (not quite) in the HWH thread.

I just pooped in to open the windows, remove the cobwebs and make sure that the bottles contain more than old vapour, in preparation for a hopefully not too distant triumphant return of JRT, with whom I've just exchanged emails.

Elsan, check, windows closed, check, light up the stove, check.

Hello Chaps,

Belated New Year Greetings. Just popped in myself after receiving an email from JRT not more than an hour ago. Something of a coincidence because he sent it to an email address which I rarely bother with! Another odd 'coinkidinky' as JRT would say...

Tonight, I will open my Glenfiddich birthday gift which has led something of a charmed life for a full 10 days. bottles Cheers!

Folks,
Dux:
Quite a coinkidinky i'd say. In case it was not preordained by a beneficent fate, kindly send me an address you do check often...
Internet being hooked up at our new home tomorroy, new computer coming next month.

I'll be a daily poster again soon. No,that is not a threat Dux. I'm texting from my new smart phone and that is tedious. This requires the unaccustomed and doubtless appreciated brevity of this post.

Chaps,

JRT,

Very pleased to learn that things are so much better for you. New PC eh? Sounds like a springboard for another 14 years on SNAFU's thread, SimHQ biggrin
Christmas, New Year and the inevitable birthday have come and gone - and so has the Glenfiddich, about one hour ago ;-)
An email response will soon be winging its way to your frost-bound mailbox... Two inches of snow have just fallen here, this evening.

Yow, that was fast! Bottles of scotch at my house seem to
have quite a long lifetime, decaying in an exponential
curve rather like the halflife of a radioactive isotope.
Not a complete mystery, it is because around the time the
bottle reaches 1/3 left, a cautious feeling of parsimony
begins to dawn, which goes "steady on, now", and a little
while later expresses itself as "wait! If you drink it
all today, there won't be any to have tomorrow, and then
you'll have to wait til you have time to get to the store."
And thereafter the level in the bottle goes down in the
manner of the progress of one of Zeno's arrows, by halves,
endlessly. (Well, almost, anyway).

PV1,

The entire contents were not intended to be consumed in one evening. Unfortunately, there were two women present who preferred their whisky neat. shedevil Of course, this spared the Canada Dry from a similar fate and it was the only bottle I brought back with most of the contents therein. frown

Folks,
Gentleman:
It is good to be back. I have one question regarding your recent posts...
No,l do not question Dux's claim that he polished off that botitle with a thoughtful restraint of any kind whatsoever though having had the pleasure of his company for these 14 years might indicate otherwise. What I question is Pv1's use of the word "unfortunately" referring to the two ladies...

Folks:

I'm back online again using the old box pending arrival of a new PC in early Feb. The phone I used yesterday and today is brand new and I'm a reasonably fast texter but typing is somewhat easier on this big keyboard rather than thumbing on the Samsung Galaxy S5.

It is nice to see the old hands are still about and there are some new (to me) arrivals. It has almost been 14 years since SNAFU launched this thread. Whoda thunk it would still be around today?

May I recommend the movie "American Sniper". My son and I saw it Friday night and were very pleased with it. I was very pleased to see that it followed the book better than many such efforts from Hollywood. Perhaps one day they will make a new movie about the air war in WW2? With the the advent of sota CGI there are so many possibilities for rendering realistic aircraft even without renting the Spanish air force.

How are the Fokker repairs coming along Dux? I'm not able to fly anything at present as the USB system has given up the ghost in this old XP. Only a few more weeks to go though. I was using my son's laptop as some of you may recall however he was promoted and he needs that for work these days. He never actually made it to the oil fields of ND but found a better surveying job here where it never gets so cold you pee ice cubes. That, for a southern boy is important. yep

Gents,

JRT,

The Fokker is repaired but still awaiting long grass...

An 'Oz' friend I was in the RAF with was stationed at Maralinga during the fifties when we were doing the atom bomb tests out there. Only recently there were reports that some of the peripheral territory was to be handed back to the aborigines. How generous.
Obviously, he still holds an interest in all weapons nuclear and sent me email pics which can be seen via this link. Perhaps you have already seen them but they are here, anyway.
