Hi Guys. It might be an idea to post links to sites where anyone could get a download a full version of EAW. I've had a look around, but nothing legal, other than the Demo version. It would be helpful for anyone who want to play EAW, but has no disk, and can use it to update to 1.4.

But that is only one copy trindade, if he still has it. What we need is a perminantly available legal download of the full game.
Maybe, if there is no download available anywhere, it might be time to ask Atari if we could post full versions of 1.4.
After all, we got permission to work on the code many years ago, and EAW is now a staggering 16 years old. Surely, there must be a case to make EAW abandonware, and make it free for us to post our new versions, freely.

Ugh... as not said. It's with a "free" offer. That is 6 bucks for a day worth of download or 9 for a month.
Without any insurance against corrupted downloads.

So I checked it out and this is what I found: They claim it runs on a modern PC. What no 7217 error? Have they borrowed one of our versions? Did they get permission from ATARI? If you click the right areas to get a free version the d/l speed is slow. However, if a free download is legally available from this crowd, then what is to stop us from offering one too?

Hi Allen. I was surprised by the number of games available, such as WOV and two versions of Microsoft CFS2, and CFS3. Surely they are not legal. As Atari is owned by a French company I did some checking It is currently the name of a wholly owned subsidiary of Atari, SA (formerly Infogrames), who is the current owner of the Atari brand and various other properties formerly belonging to Hasbro Interactive. It was formed in 2001, when IESA acquired Hasbro Interactive and proceeded to rename it to Infogrames Interactive.[4] In 2003, IESA then changed the company name entirely to Atari Interactive, Inc. as part of its world wide reorganization to focus on use of the Atari brand.[5] Their website makes no reference to EAW and it is not available from their outlet in any form. Only a handful of simulation games are: . I wonder if retailers are still able to obtain EAW to put on their shelves, and if so who is supplying it.

Hi Allen. I was thinking the same thing. So many of the Google search results for EAW are blocked by my server, which makes you think these sites are offering illegal content. Atari AU, used to sell EAW as a download a few years back, but I can't even find the Atari worldwide sites anymore. It seems EAW has slipped into Grey history, not available legally anywhere, other than on an a old CD.

He forgot us! But to stay relevant in the business, when you have a great franchise, keep working on it. World of WarCraft is what, ten years old? When they released the game, who would've known ten years later it'd still be receiving updates and patches with new features? That's the amazing thing about PC games. You start, and if you make a mistake you correct it. Sometimes you have to stop it because clearly there's no market and no one loves your game. Okay, too bad, let's move on to the next one.
But as a publisher, we can stay relevant and engage with the community for one year, two years, three years.

Jon, I think you missed the most important bit "When they released the game, who would've known ten years later it'd still be receiving updates and patches with new features?" Have you ever thought of offering to remaster a disk with the original 1.2 and a way to enable your version of EAW? I remastered PESE for Nordic Games and included all the updated mods I could get permission of the mod makers. Nordic Games updated the GOG.com download version of PESE and rebundled it with PEA, releasing it as a collection. Heck, I was even offered the code for PEA to merge then into one game. You never know, you might get exactly what you want. "Who is John Gault?"
